Aruba is expensive, because nearly everything has to be shipped in. Unlike the other Caribbean Islands, Aruba is more of a desert Island.

But they do have 2 of best beaches going(eagle and palm beaches)

It's also not a party destination, it's a laid back place. U go to sun, relax, and relax.

No thanks. I would rather not be stuck on a floaty with Trash for a week.

Any vacation plans I make this year will involve these things.

We just got back from a great Puerto Rico trip. We stayed in Cabo Rojo near Combate. Where did you stay?

I have heard it was nice from other travelers. Everyone has also said the only negative was the constant wind. But you could nitpick a negative on any Island. My negative for GC is the lack of geological variety. I like hills and mountains on islands and GC is pretty flat. I think the high point is 60ft above sea level. I am sure it is very nice place to visit. My wife and I do not party so we like to go to places to relax and sightsee.

Yeah, trade winds are usually in 18-25mph or more range. But if not for the winds, the weather would be in the 100+range. It makes the high 90's bearable.

Not Las Vegas. A 5 night trip just cost me over $7,000 - and I didn't lose a cent gambling.
For under $3K I'd do Chicago. You can stay at theWit for around $300/night - it's a newer, hip hotel with a great location in the theater district and boasts a very popular rooftop lounge. Seems like they are always advertising cheap airfare to Chicago. A City Pass costs around $100/person and gets you into the Field Museum, Skydeck, Shedd Aquarium, the Art Institute, and the Museum of Science and Industry - all of which are awesome and a short cab or metro ride away.. Millenium Park is a cool free hangout. And that leaves around $1,000 for some nice restaurants and whatever else you want to do. Chicago still ranks as my favorite vacation. Amazing city.

Chicago is a great trip, but not necessarily relaxing.

I was not a fan of their beaches, but that's not why I went there.

....I went for the cheap prostitutes.

For under 3k Costa Rica will be the most bang for your buck - stay on the west coast and rent a beach house and car. You could do flights, car, beach house all for 2k

Just got back from Chicago and did all the things listed in other Chicago post, wouldn't recommend as top option, but i don't love cities. Did the whole thing including transportation for 2k. Hotels.com

Alaskan cruises are getting started back up and you can also check into the groupon to Iceland. I tried to make it work, but dates didn't line up for me
