Torn between Service Merchandise and Howard Bros. Fond memories of both. Otasco running a close third.

If anyone is ever in DeQuincy Louisiana do yourself a favor and go to Nichols Dry Goods. It’s kind of like stepping back in time. They sell guns, clothes, home decor, other sporting goods, etc. They have a ton of LSU stuff I’ve never seen at any other store. That store has been around since I was a kid.

Googling shows there are more than one in Louisiana. Never realized it was a chain.

T, G & Y

Got my first new shotgun as a Christmas present. A Remington LT 1200 20 ga. purchased at TG&Y. I passed it down to my son a few years back.

Which one accepted S&H Green Stamps? I remember my great-grandmother and old aunts had books of green stamps they'd save and once a year they'd go trade them in for some new small appliance like a toaster or coffee percolator.

Damn boy, I filled my share of books with green stamps and I’m not a boomer.

Chess King - thinking about some of the shite I wore in the 80’s makes me cringe. Wouldn’t trade my 80’s childhood and mid teen years for anything though.

Yes sir. Silk shirts, high heel shoes. Been there done that.

Looked like John Travolta carrying that paint can down the new york street

If we are talking Godchaux's, my favorite was the one downtown on Florida Blvd. It was the longest department store in the world. And I always remember the Santa on top the store that could be heard miles away on Christmas

Service Merchandise.

I played on their Commodore 64 computer every Sunday after church because we could not afford one.

Wow, dawginar, my dad managed Gibson stores in Arkansas, Kentucky and Louisiana. Many years after he had died, I found out that Sam Walton had visited the store in El Dorado, AR looking for young managers. My dad chose poorly also. I think that was in1968.
