The reason many morbidly obese people fail at losing weight is because they think they're going to burn off their fat by exercising. You know how long it takes a morbidly obese person to walk 4 miles in order to burn 500 calories?
Fatties need to be able to cut meals or 400 calorie snacks. It's much more practical in the beginning.
This. Exercise is the least of your concern if you're still knocking back 3500 cals a day.

Right, so I would say the suggestion of cutting out fruits all together is a terrible suggestion if approaching with this mind set.

Going to the gym is not a short term thing. Workout 4 days a week. That isn't a huge obligation.

Anyone seriously running a calorie deficit learns on their own that chips, donuts, pizza, etc. can't be part of their everyday diet or else they'll be starving. However, it isn't encouraging or even realistic to tell a fat person they can never have a "bad" food again. They absolutely can. Just work it into your budget and keep it occasional.
Right
These need to be occasional things because they are high in calories and very low in satiety

I am neither a fat bastard nor a skinny frick. I weigh 240. I should probably weigh 215-220. I should go to the gym more often. But I don't understand where all the hate is coming from with you skinny bastards towards our portly peers. I mean, its quite vicious. I do take issue with parents raising obese kids. My kids are both in great shape and very active. But I may have to send my oldest to meet a couple of you self-righteous douche bags at Sonic. He takes Jujistsu and MMA. And he is kind, sensitive and considerate to everyone he meets. But he's gonna frick you angry, self-righteous, small-waisted bastards up. Take it from the guy who left the cucumber in the closet and chill the frick out and get over yourselves

This board is completely populated by fat people who hide their fatness behind anonymity. If we were forced to used pictures of ourselves in bathing suits as our avatars the fat threads would cease to exist.

Lol, some of you are so full of shite. I bet most of you have never been more than 30 pounds over what is considered your ideal weight.
I've actually been about 150 lbs overweight in my lifetime (about 12-13 years ago)
There was a time in my life where I wished I was 280 like you are now
You need to get the idea out of your head that you're stuck at that weight
Don't assume people here haven't been severely overweight
I want to say Hulk was in the 370 range at one point and has lost over 100 lbs

Pushing morbidly obese fatties into the gym on day 1 of their battle with fatness is a terrible strategy. This is why people fail.
I work out 3-5 days a week. I’m 29 and I have no kids. I’ve also been lifting and/or running regularly since 2013. I’m not going to pretend that someone pushing 3 bills can just walk into a gym and have the same experience.

If they walk 3.5 mph they can probably do it in around an hour and a half, or a little over. If the guy is 280, he can do elliptical and stuff too. I'm not saying he has to just run the whole time, but even if all they can do is walk, that is fine. If we are talking a long term solution, that has to be part of it. Just cutting meals and snacks is a short term solution.

Again, short term solution. I don't disagree that this needs to be part of it, but this is not what would sustain the weight loss. They need the activity.

Wut? Major diet modification is the only way they will lose in the short term and keep it off long term.

Did I say they would have the same experience? No. That doesn't mean it doesn't need to be a part of it. Cut it back to 250 calories at the gym 4 days a week.
Cutting out all fruit like y'all were talking about is just a stupid suggestion. That is not a long term solution.

Cutting all fruit is not a major diet modification

ETA: And the guy already had said his diet is around 2000 calories. I can't know for sure so I have to take his word on it. So, long term, cutting it to 1500 and changing nothing else is honestly a silly long term plan.

I don't think shaming is the right approach. Nor is acceptance. Each of those tactics will just exacerbate the problem.
We have shitty guidelines still, and mis/unimformed health care professionals and staff, and relatedly shitty "common sense" about nutrition and health generally. This is on top of blatant corruption in the gov-health-food-media-industrial complex.
Until science and education prevail, no amount of shaming or acceptance is going to make us healthier.
It is sickening. Literally.
Eta: health/fitness board topic. Although I do like seeing broader participation on this topic.

Why? Don't eat sugar for two weeks and not only will you not want it, but if you do eat it you'll feel like shite
