Outside of deep pockets, why is LSU getting drug into this? This is like saying that Chicago should be sued every time someone is shot in the city because it is a gun free zone and they aren't doing enough to maintain that.
That's a terrible analogy.

Title IX being referenced
That legislation and how it’s been interpreted has turned into an abomination

why? You can't micromanage something like this. It is unfeasible for LSU to hire people to sit in frats 24/7 and watch them to make sure nothing stupid happens. You make the rules and people either follow them or they don't. You punish them when they don't but it isn't your fault when people don't follow the rules.

Since this is back in the news again, is it possible the Advocate website can find another picture of the kid to use? I swear I have seen this one a thousand times.

The bigger picture is that kids have been pushed to get fricked up as quickly as possible. This isn't just a Greek or college issue, it is a national cultural issue.
Anybody that doesn't believe this should go follow barstoolsports, 5thyear, etc. on Instagram. Littered with college kids one upping each other chugging full bottles of liquor. Surprised we haven't seen more fatalities.

Angela Guillory knew about it and did nothing.
She was too busy investigating alleged drug abuse at the Kappa Sick house and DKE house, I’m sure

I follow oldrow on instagram and these kids are basically one generation of college student (so like 3-5 years) behind me and most of the videos make me think "man these kids are dumb" and "I can't believe how ok they are with being video'd"

The difference in maturity between a kid that is 18 and one that is 25 can be huge, you almost become a different person, welcome to adulthood!

There are firms that specialize in hazing cases and will stand by for the call from families that are in the news for fraternity deaths or injuries. In this case it's definitely a result of hazing, but if a student dies, is injured, or causes injury or death while they are a fraternity pledge, these firms will make every effort to link it back to the fraternity and the university.
I'm sure that as soon as the Gruver family contacted an attorney, that attorney put the call out to these guys: The Fierberg National Law Group.

He was hazed. Many have been hazed. Some have been harmed. LSU always told them not to haze after someone was harmed. They did little to monitor, or enforce their no hazing policy. This is why they will pay.
Yep.
People do not like truth and facts sometimes, but it will not be hard to prove this^ or that Max is not 100% responsible for his death.
He wasn’t of legal drinking age. Sure, he’s 18 - and all teenagers should have the fortitude to Uber the frick out whilst intoxicated, resist being engaged in risky behavior, etc.
But he attained an outrageous BAC of .495 on university property during Rush. He didn’t buy that alcohol or ask to slug it; he drank after it was offered to him during a preplanned Greek event on campus where drinking was part of the pledge activity. The stupid involved in that is mind boggling, but it is a pervasive activity. The frat parties we went to during college served keg beer and liquor, there was zero oversight or concern for liability regarding dangerously drunk teenagers.
If a kid gets alcohol poisoning and dies in your house, you would be scrutinized - did you turn a blind eye? Was underage binge drinking a regular occurrence? If you punish the perpetrators, is that good enough as long as enough time passes before another serious incident occurs?
Is there any scenario where property owners are not somewhat responsible when an underage alcohol poisoning death occurred on their property? The university can’t prevent everything, but people who don’t think underage drinking is accepted,, pervasive, and unchecked at Greek parties are in unicorn fantasy land. Maybe this big arse fine will help them figure it out.
