Depending on what he had on his skin, he was likely fine. This is like the lighter fluid trick your uncle used to do at family gatherings. The lighter fluid burns first and you put the fire out before it gets your skin.
If you breathe in the fumes though, your lungs can get burned and then you're in trouble.

Women trying to do men's work kills me sometimes, not that some of them can't do it well, but the majority are just totally stumped by it.
If she turned off the light, that newel post shadow would go away.
Oh, and that gal in an earlier post sawing wood with a hacksaw that had reached it maximum depth of cut and still not through the board made me laugh out loud. She was determined to keep moving the saw back and forth even though it was pointless until she attacked it from the side of the board or flipped the board and started from the other direction.
