They won’t shut it down but they won’t expand either in the future. Gone to Texas. Typical Baton Rouge and I’ve spent way too many years defending this place.

No. No it doesn't.

Zachary just got assfricked by 3 closures / consolidations within a week BEFORE this hit the fan.
I thought so as well, at first. But Zachary residents don't seem too concerned at all. Some in the pipe plant left but many other companies said they will hire GP and BASF workers. Although it'll be a longer commute. Many dont feel they'll move as 1/2 of GP workers already lived outside Zachary. The ones that moved to Zachary thinks the school system and community sells itself.

If they don’t continue to put improvements at the plant, it slowly becomes less viable compared to other facilities.
That plant is one of their biggest in the country. To think that they will sacrifice maintenance and safety over $2.9M over 10 years is laughable.
This is media verbiage to scare the locals.

Baytown, Beaumont, and Corpus Christi will be reaping the rewards of Together Baton Rouge for years to come

They'll sell it to some foreign company who will further neglect maintenance and run it into the ground before squeezing the last life/profits out of it. When it does close there will be nobody left to clean it up.

They won’t close it. They’ll just sell it like they did in California. Exxon will continue to invest more in Texas and overseas.

Have you read up on TBR?
Posted on 1/22/19 at 1:45 pm to Prominentwon
Maybe maybe not.
Still doesn’t make this situation any less of a bad idea on behalf of the council and TBR. Pissing off the largest private employer in a multi-parish area over chicken feed has long term effects.

It's not the $2.9MM that's the issue. It's the principle. If these jackasses are denying a $290k/yr tax break then there is a good likelihood they'll deny larger breaks for future expansions. It's a slap in the face to one of the largest tax contributors in the state.

Seems to be a good enough reason for Exxon to take sides against the guy who helped this clusterfrick along, Sloth Bel Edwards.

The last 3 years have made me proud to say that I'm not from here.

They can come to Ascension because we aren’t stupid like BR. We’ll give them tax breaks to build or to expand and then them being in our parish will help everything about our parish. Will boost the economy because more people will move here which means more business which means more money which means more money for the schools which means better public schools which means better educated people which means we know what the frick we’re doing.
Not the plants fault that the EBR School board doesn’t know how to operate and that the school board and politicians don’t know how to properly use tax dollars.

Why the assumption that they will just "go to Texas"? Why not build in Ascension, or WBR, or Iberville, etc?
Posted on 1/22/19 at 2:12 pm to Prominentwon
How do you sleep at night being so stupid? Or are you so stupid you don’t realize you’re stupid? Blissful ignorance.
I’m sure the TBR paid terrorists will also rejoice in learning that ExxonMobil employees were verbally berated and booed yesterday while out in the community volunteering yesterday. That’s real togetherness.
Baton Rouge will notice when expansions and modernizations start to all go across the Sabine and the 35,000 hours Exxon employees spend volunteering in the community INCLUDING in the schools starts to diminish. I’m sure the company is also second guessing the $13 Million STEM grant given to the Louisiana school system in 2016.

$2.9M
Their Coker unit profits that much in 3 hours
Then why are they so bent about paying that much in taxes to support the area? It works both ways.
I don't know how many jobs this expansion would bring, but the idea that we should give industries anything they want is just wrong. In Alabama, education suffers because of ridiculous tax exemptions for corporations.
