Growing up in the Midwest, I also don't see the point of them.

Never owned or wore one.
I just recently entered the vest game with an alpaca fur one. So, life is good. Throw a scarf on and you’re remarkably warm and look sharp too.

I like to wear a nice quarter zip in the winter. Looks good over a work shirt with a tie. Wearing one right now actually
The no sleeves makes it easier to wear a coat on top for when you are outside in the cold but keeps you from being overheated when you are inside where it is warmer

A nice Northface fleece jacket or something similar is far superior to the vest and it actually keeps you warm. I've worked outside in the cold weather when farming, in the military, when shovelings snow, and those vests due jack squat to keep you warm or to keep you cool once you start heating up.

I would say wearing a vest to keep your long sleeves from getting wrinkled is peak 1st world problems

If you are a real man with real tools, then you don’t want sleeves getting caught in a tractor implement, large saw, or any number of other tools.
Real men wear a vest with short sleeves in the winter?

Farming in the fall in WI, the weather is in the 40's or 50's, which is when most are saying vests are perfect for wearing while doing things outdoors.

You wouldn't understand.
All of these real men are busy hunting grizzlies, building engines and cutting firewood in backwoods Alaska, and only a vest will do.

I used to think they were dumb. But when it’s a bit cool I can wear it and not a jacket that I push the sleeves up anyway because you eventually warm up.

It’s almost as if most people on this board don’t live in the Midwest…
