Explain martial law to me

Let’s say JBE declares martial law in Louisiana or trump declares martial law on the US. Would it be for the whole stare/country or just a part of it like New Orleans or California? Let’s say your in one of these regions, what happens next?

The military comes in and is given almost unlimited latitude to enforce the law. The Bill of Rights is suspended. About anything you can imagine becomes fair game to keep order. Confiscation of arms, search and siezure without warrants, travel restrictions, enforced quarantine zones, etc.
