I say go for it. Obesity in children can likely completely screw up their hormonal responses (insulin being the most obvious) for decades. From what I recall reading, it also leads to your brain not getting the "full/stop eating" response from your body.
But, they should also make these drugs widely available and affordable for adults first if they're so great.

To combat it, experts are calling for early and intensive treatment. For some children, that may include weight loss medications.
Let’s bring back outside recess for all of the kids first.
Taking recess away from kids younger than high school age was a huge mistake. It basically conditions them to not be active.

Remove half their small intestines, absorb half the calories, easy peasy, no?

regular exercise and sensible eating is the easiest thing in the world to do. Just go outside and run around like kids are supposed to do, and eat an apple before each mealtime
boom, no more obesity epidemic

Normally I’m not for drugs for kids but this generation is fat as frick and I’ve seen adults cut their weight in half with this and the kids aren’t going to stop playing their video games
There is no free lunch in nature.

Just don't feed your children shite food and force them to be active
I eat a crap diet and while I work out, I'm not a fanatic about it. I've never had a problem with weight. My sister has struggled with weight her whole life and keeps it under control with a diet and exercise routine that verges on an eating disorder. My brother is also overweight. It would take the same fanaticism as my sister to bring it down. Same upbringing, different outcomes. It's easy to say just eat less and exercise more, and that's true to an extent, but it is harder for some people. I've seen it personally.

Get enough activity.
Keep treats as treats.
Eat more nutrition dense/low calorie foods.
Too many kids are sedentary with snacks and screen time used to keep them out of parents' hair.
I've seen Wall-E as I'm sure many here have. Prophetic.

Fat kids grow up to be fat adults. Parents are screwing their kids out of a healthy future, and frankly I think it should be considered child abuse. If we can’t incentivize feeding your kids right, so that they don’t suffer from the ill effects of obesity starting in elementary or middle school, then maybe this is a solution.

And food stamps paying for sodas, cookies, chips, and other processed foods out the wazoo. We should only be paying for meat, produce, cheese, and other staples. Instead we fund our nation’s obesity crisis and then pay for it again through our health system. It’s fricking stupid.

So when I brought up my kid’s weight at the doctor, the doctor treated me like a monster and told her to eat whatever she wants, her weight is fine. So we aren’t supposed to hound our kids about lifestyle, but now they want us to give them these drugs? The medical establishment has been taken over by drug companies.

Don’t fix the foods and diets, just throw another pill at it.

I agree. But - this reliance on drugs, some without long-term data on effects on adults, much less kids, is alarming. We need to change our collective lifestyle. From babies to old people, we aren’t living in a mentally or physically healthy way.

Hell if kids were just more active their metabolism could handle the crappier food options..

That’s not a very good reason to teach them to be reliant on drugs.
