Yes. 10 million jobs. And not everyone is Jerry jones. But even upper level guys at majors are feeling a pinch. This is tough worldwide. Energy and oil is huge for our national security.
10 million jobs
10 million jobs

National security is also a big waste of money.

Let's not pretend like there are no benefits. It's nice not having to look at my neighbor's black escalade with illegally tinted windows and a bright pink old field mama font on the back.

Why should O&G get preferential sympathy?
It should not, but it does get a hugely disproportionate share of schadenfreude.
Of course this comes from people who are jealous of the money O&G professionals make. You have Operators who, in some cases, barely graduated high school making well into the six figures. It really pisses some people off that people they perceive as uneducated or trashy make 2 or even 3 times as much as they do, hence when the industry is down, they love to post up the

I have a hard time feeling bad for oil and gas bc when times are good they jack up the prices and make billions in profits. It's feast or famine, they don't care about the consumer

Unless they find a cure for old age and/or stupidity it's not likely.
I have compassion and feel for the families affected. But there was only celebration when oil field baws were living high on the Hog at $4/gal+ and there was no compassion for those families feeling the sting.
Hang in there.

Aside from this, were you under the impression that Exploration and Production companies were supposed to be charities? You can't be that stupid/naive?

Reasonable people aren't jealous of their salaries, because it comes with a lifestyle that is pretty much complete shite.

I agree with you entirely, but you'd be shocked to talk to some people who work 2/2's offshore.
I was having a conversation with one guy telling him that the 2 or 3 times a year I have to go offshore it's a real pain in the arse and I don't know how he does it all the time. His response was that he didn't know how I go in the office Mon-Fri every day.
A lot of them genuinely like the offshore lifestyle, so more power to them I guess.

I would think unemployment pay in Canada affords a better life style than Venezuala.

So big earners spur the economy by spending, but middle class Americans don't have a greater impact by spending the money they saved at the pump?
You smoke the weed, don't you?

I think the main issue is that the oilfield guys made it so hard to feel sorry for them now due to the way too many of them acted when prices were high the boom was rolling.

No, the main issue is that people like you group all individuals that work in the industry with these "oilfield guys"; who are simply non educated roughnecks who do the grunt work in the field. The large majority of the oil and gas employees are normal, well educated, people. More than likely, more educated than most....

Living in Tyler, TX for 5 years determined that is a lie.

It's already been to my industry. It will return one day to my industry. Right now I'm snapping necks and cashing checks. Such is life when you make a living in a commodity based industry. Save in the boom, make moves in the doom.

Oh no, that's not the case. The oilfield execs are as big or bigger douches than the "fight, frick and trip pipe" guys. I seem to remember them on here trying to rub bonuses and raises in everyone's face. Don't feel bad, I am accounting for the white shirts too. That's why I was careful to say "oilfield guys" instead of "oilfield baws."
