Whew...those were rough times when prices were really high. A family of five...wife and I were each commuting about 30 miles to and from work each day. We had 3 teenagers at the time (two with vehicles
That sounds smart to have a 30 mile commute and have 2 kids driving when gas is 4/gallon

What about compassion applied when gas was 4.00 a gallon on every single citizen of the United states?
The market determines oil prices, not the companies. Same as any other commodity. It's not about greed or compassion.

I agree with one of those...

Have you not realized by now that domestic energy companies don't control commodity prices?

I call bullshite because with that kind of money to be made, price fixin has to occur. That's not the market.

Let me explain it for the OT. Relatively high income earners lose their jobs or get worried about job loss, they stop spending, consumer spending goes down and we all suffer. Yet you guys are doing the peanut butter and jelly Dance to save a few dollars on gas.
We all suffer? No.. I benefit a huge amount from $1.50 gas.

Uhhhh.......... demand for oil is relatively stable. The supply is changing.. and that decision is made by companies.

Why should O&G get preferential sympathy?
True, but it seems the O/G people spend their money quicker than they earn it when times are good, and don't save for the dry spells, and so it causes weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Probably seems that way because it's such a talking point on the all knowing OT board.

I've said it in a thread like this before, but I don't remember being thanked for $4.00/gallon.
However, I don't like seeing anyone losing their jobs in situations like this, and I do realize how important O&G is to our area. I'd be super excited about low gas prices if it werent costing jobs left and right; but I don't want to pay $4 per either.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't mind gas being a little more expensive if it's helping the economy, just not super expensive.

I'm in the same boat. I don't want to see one person lose their job, but $4 a gallon gas is ridiculous. I think $2-2.25 is a fair price and gives a lot of profit to the oil companies and gas stations.
