I don;t know about you guys... But I am 60 and it's been the Gulf of Mexico all my life.. and I ain't gonna change it now...

I agree with you in principal that a name is just a name. I also agree that changing names is nothing more than virtue signaling
The problem I have is “Menu Cost”…. The name change will require MILLIONS in fedgov and stategov expenditures as EVERY MAP, EVERY POLICY, EVERY MENTION of the GofM will now need to be edited in any agency that receives federal funding.
Geez, take a deep breath, maybe two or three. It's one word, change it on the next printing or software release. You don't have to make the change retroactive.

When I visited Dubai about a year ago, one of my colleagues (Egyptian) pointed out that we call it the Persian Gulf but that region calls it the Gulf of Arabia or Arabian Gulf.
I just glanced at Wikipedia and sounds like it’s got a lot of history behind it.
