Depends on which ones you are drinking, but most are around the same as sodas I think, so fairly high sugar yeah. The monster teas/lemonades I drink occasionally during the workweek are only 20 calories per can though, and the low calorie ones obviously don’t have a lot either. I think the have around 3 grams of sugar per serving, so maybe 7-8 per can. So not great, but not bad.
I mean, I drink one at lunch typically and get less caffeine than a 16 ounce coffee, and only the 20ish calories. My only concerns would be related to what effects taurine and the other amino acids have on the body, not the caffeine.
Most stories with people injuring themselves with energy drinks seem to involve people drinking 5-6 and doing something hi stress or combining it with booze to cause major issues.

Back in the day I would drink a 12 pack of Dr Peppers daily

I drink 4 cups of coffee some days. The small community red cups not coffee mugs and always black. Brush mid day to avoid to coffee breath. Also have a couple of Monsters a week. Always the sugar free. Sounds like there is more to the story.

I drink coffee all day, everyday. My brain hasn’t hemorraged yet. I don’t care what studies say, I’m always gonna drink coffee everyday. I’d rather die early with coffee in my life than live long without it.

I’ve never had an energy drink because I’m not a weak bitch who needs artificial energy.
But, I’ll drink the hell out of some coffee. But I drink it black because I’m not a bitch.

You know energy drinks are bad when they kill more people than cocaine.

I'm thinking it's the other shite in energy drinks and not the caffeine that did him in.
Eta: the woman is just claiming this without any medical expertise
Try reading closer. I still wouldn't drink energy drinks anyways.

If caffeine is the problem, then wouldn't a lot of coffee be just as bad?
Yes, op hardly read the article. It's just a wild guess by her. If all this terrible shite that happened to an otherwise healthy were to be a direct result of energy drink consumption, they'd have already killed many others by now.
This man's wife is just making a huge guess in her "its those Damn energy drinks!!" Comment.
The article does not give any other info into the cause of the individual's predicament.
Again, I still advise people to not drink energy drinks, but i doubt that's directly related to the issues experienced by this individual unless it was an insane amount and in that case it wouldn't be the caffeine, it's probably the other shite in those things.

I never drink that shite and no more than 2 cups of coffee. Came across this last week but didn't have the heart to post it.

has always been a very strong tradition in south Louisiana for 2 or 3 o’clock coffee. I guess I don’t understand the aversion to coffee when it’s hot outside as it usually is here.
Not raised there, but I consider new Orleans home. I also work outside. Year round, I pretty much drink coffee all day. An afternoon cup keeps me from needing an afternoon nap.

Most energy drinks have less caffeine per ounce than a cup of coffee. A large coffee at Starbucks actually has a bit more caffeine than a monster.
What about the other stimulants in energy drinks? I'm pretty sure there's more than just caffeine in there.
I do think it's kinda bullshite that they don't say how much he drank a day. That's useful info. But being the New York Post, my expectations are already pretty low.
I'm glad I've never really liked them. Not only do they taste too sweet for me, but they can get expensive. I drink about a quart a day (I fill up my tumbler, and drink it over a few hours).
The only reason I ever drink it, is to mix with vodka.

Yeah I'm calling bullshite on this story.

Just drink tea or coffee, or eat a piece of dark chocolate. Anhydrous Caffeine is scary shite.

There isn't one ounce of evidence that caffeine could possibly do this.

I think the assertion in the article is misguided and baseless at this point.
On energy drinks, my concern is not caffeine but the other shite in it. Red Bull is tame compared to many on the market.
I myself prefer coffee but will opt here and there for a RB. Btw, a grande coffee from Starbucks has 355mg of caffeine.....that's a lot!

white monster zero ultra
I drink 1, and only 1, every work day (4 days a week).
Stick to traditional red bull mixed with jager on the weekends because Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are for the boys.

I read this article last week on Yahoo and it gives zero specifics. Doesn't even say how many the guy drank per day. I'm drinking a monster ultra zero right now. It has 140 mg of caffeine in the can, that's a fair amount but not a ton. The other things in it are amino acids, small amount of artificial sweetener, B vitamins, plant extracts and preservatives. Like anything, don't over do it and you will be fine.
