Earlier I heard a report saying the school shooting in Kentucky yesterday was the 11th school shooting in 2018. Since it seems like I only remember two or three of them being in the news, I googled to see about all 11 shootings. There are a bunch of news sites that have recently published a story about this, but this is the first one that I came across that listed them.

quote:

The two students killed by a fellow high schooler Tuesday in Benton, Kentucky, weren’t the first victims of such violence this month. So far this week, three shootings have happened at or near schools. Eight more took place in the first three weeks of 2018.

A student bringing a gun onto school property and firing at peers or teachers seems to occur most often, though that’s not always what happens. Two of the shootings this month were later identified as suicides. And in one instance, a 32-year-old man shot at a school bus with a pellet gun.

Here’s the complete list of shooting incidents schools have faced so far this year:

Jan. 23: Marshall County High School in Benton, Kentucky

A 15-year-old boy opened fire inside the school, killing two and injuring 16.

Jan. 22: NET Charter High School in New Orleans, Louisiana

Someone driving by the school fired on a group of students in the parking lot. Only one boy was injured.

Jan. 22: Italy High School in Italy, Texas

A 16-year-old boy shot a 15-year-old girl in the cafeteria. He was arrested and she was airlifted to a hospital, where she was “in good spirits” as of Tuesday.

Jan. 20: Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina

Following an argument, a 21-year-old Winston-Salem University student was shot and killed during a sorority event at Wake Forest University.

Jan. 15: Wiley College in Marshall, Texas

Two people in a car exchanged gunfire with a person in a dormitory parking lot. No one was injured, but a bullet was fired into a dorm room with three female students inside.

Jan. 10: Coronado Elementary School in Sierra Vista, Arizona

A 14-year-old died in a school bathroom from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Jan. 10: Grayson College in Denison, Texas

A student confused a training weapon with a real one and fired a bullet through a classroom wall. No students were injured.

Jan. 10: California State University in San Bernardino, California

At least one shot was fired, shattering one classroom window. No students were injured.

Jan. 6: School bus in Forest City, Iowa

A 32-year-old man fired a pellet gun at a school bus, shattering one of the windows. No students were injured.

Jan. 4: New Start High School in Seattle, Washington

Two shots were fired at the school from outside the building. No students were injured.

Jan. 3: East Olive Elementary School in St. John, Michigan

A man standing in the school’s parking lot called 911 saying he was suicidal. He spoke with a county official for several hours on the phone, according to local media, but ultimately shot himself and died from a single gunshot wound.

Huffington Post

Okay so the one on January 15th. Some people were arguing outside of a dorm room, a shot was fired, it went into the dorm, no one was injured.. Would you consider this a "school shooting"?

January 10th, a kid killed himself. While sad, is this a school shooting? It happened at school, but my point is.. I think when people think "school shooting", they think of someone with a gun going around trying to randomly shoot people.

There are several others on the list I wouldn't consider "school shootings", however; people will use this number as an arguing point. I know some will come in say "it's liberals this or conservatives that". We all know the side each side takea, I am simply asking.. Do you think this list is exaggerated?

I would consider a school shooting any discharge of a firearm at a school while students are present.

God you're terrible.

A shooting at a school isn't a school shooting? You seem to be thinking school shooting means Columbine.

Technically I can't disagree, but if you are going to list an incident involving a bb gun, then why not throw in nerf gun involved shootings?

So, the media bends and spins to fit their agenda. Who knew?

The only one that doesn't fit.

Eh every time I read it though I think it fits more and more.

If you can't figure this out on your own, then you don't deserve an answer.

What about the one with the guy standing in a school parking lot who called 911 and then committed suicide? Was any children in harms way?

Why is a 14 year old in the bathroom of an elementary school?

Dont be so dense, I clearly understand the point he's getting at. School shooting makes people think exactly like this:

quote:

You seem to be thinking school shooting means Columbine

So the media sensationalizing these "gun discharges at or near schools" makes great headlines and makes the sheeple terrified. Next thing you know "Trump is responsible for 18 shootings in one month!" Or, "the world is ending because of all these shootings, ban guns!"

Calling a suicide in the bathroom at school a "School shooting" is like calling a paper cut a laceration or calling a school yard fist fight an "outbreak of violence where students assaulted other students"
