Ironic statement, given your defense of criminal actions by the defendant.
Were the other criminals charged with murder as well?

They should have been considering that their actions led to this outcome.

Well... the other one is a 13yr old shot in the back... I doubt he sees any further repercussions, unfortunately.

Hopefully he's learned his lesson. Doubt it.

No, but the judge certainly could’ve considered some context and gave a lesser sentence. He did society a big favor.

Agree with the second part. He got two thieves and a murderer off the streets.

Well that’s just not true.

Pre 1900, they were hanging horse thieves and / or chasing them down with a posse and shooting them.

I do not think that should alter whether or not he is charged.

If he was paralyzed, I would give him a pass, as that seems like an appropriate punishment.

Its a murder and attempted murder--both of minors. This guy would be getting mandatory life in prison Louisiana for this, FWIW.

There’s a decent chance this guy isn’t convicted in Louisiana. At least not of 2nd degree murder.

While he is obviously in the wrong and should do time for this, 54 years is completely insane.

States have not figured out how to effectively deal with criminals so young... I don't have any answers either.

No there isn't. Louisiana's statute only requires intent to inflict great bodily harm resulting in a death. Firing a gun at them nails that one out of the park.

I'd love to know at what age he began his criminal career.

Felony murder. Yuge difference, especially at 13 years old.

More like 13 months. That’s what Seth Fontenot got when he did it.

Of course, the details are different so who knows. The bottom line is, it’s not a good idea to shoot at someone who poses no threat to you.

Felony murder.

Attempted theft isn't a predicate felony in Colorado for first degree murder/felony murder.

Wouldn't be felony murder even if it was, because the dead kid was an accomplice to the crime.
