Take a few PTO days and tell the wife you have a meeting/workshop to go to and just fly off to some random city on your own.

Not to cheat or do anything scandalous. Just relax in the hotel, sleep until you wake up, hit the hotel gym and breakfast bar. Then sleep some more. Maybe go exploring or walk around. Basically find yourself again. Recharge…

What you say OT? Ever take a YOU retreat?

Different tracks, different cities.

Why would you have to lie to your wife to go do this new agey sounding nonsense?

I'm married, we take a WE retreat. But I'm not opposed to it. I just do it on my own in my boat for a few hours at a time.

Sure minus the lying to my family part. I've checked out a stadium or sporting event solo. Why do I need to be sneaky about it?

Oh yes, its my response to my wife when she asks what I want for my birthday. "Not to be expected to do anything".

Not to check in, not to report what I'm doing, not to be available when somone needs me, just me being left the frick alone for a day.

YOU trips are not allowed, you lose the synergy of connection with colleagues at the office, it's not worth it. One must preserve the holistic benefits provided by in person connections and organic brainstorming outside each other's cubicles at all times.

But as a non crazy person, yeah, that's why places like Barcelona exist. A week there lounging on the boulevard that let to the beach, being lazy and waiting for the concert was great tonic.

A buddy and I go to his cabin in East Texas on Toledo Bend for about a week every year and fish and squirrel hunt. I tell the wife I'm squirrel hunting, and frankly, I don't think she believes me.

She wouldn't mind if he went and spent some time on his own, but he just likes the thrill of the lie.

Sounds like a great way to cause a huge fight when she finds out you lied about it

But I'm guessing your marriage is already cooked if you are lying to be able to go out of town to avoid her for the weekend anyways

I did this but with fishing. Took my kayak and drove to Toledo Bend for a long weekend. Spring time, stayed in a tent, cooked steak and potatoes on a camp stove and fish the next night

I'm not married, so yeah. All the time. Take a couple of days off and leave the truck at a terminal, rent a car, go to a hotel and drive around looking for stuff to do. Been to many baseball games and concerts all over the country.

I hunt almost every weekend from September to February. Every other weekend I'll stay in a tent thursday evening until sunday morning if the weather is fair. I also take a 2 or 3 week trip to hunt up north with some buddies.

My wife isn't a count so I don't have to lie about getting away and doing some hunting or travelling. Last year I flew up to New York to visit with a buddy and she had no issues with that. I keep up with sh*t around the house when I'm home so I'm not leaving her with a pile of work to do on her own. When she's not working during the summer she goes on a few trips with her mom and sister so it evens out.
