Tell the truth. Crazy to think it's almost 1 in 5 people.

Survey Says 18% of Your Co-Workers are Terrible People

Maybe this has happened to you once or twice — or maybe a dozen times, depending on where you work.

If so, you aren’t alone.

American Express OPEN surveyed over 1,000 employees and found that 18% admitted to stealing someone else’s lunch from the company fridge.

The numbers are unsettling. You might be looking around your office as you read this, wondering whom you can trust — and whom you can’t.

“To think that nearly 1 in 5 of my co-workers is a sociopathic monster is appalling,” says Alex Mahadevan, data journalist at The Penny Hoarder.

The Office Lunch Bandit is ruining more than just your food routine. They’re also ruining your budget.

According to CNBC, a co-worker stealing your lunch can cost you big.

Not only do you lose the average $6.30 in groceries in your lost lunch, but you’re also out the average $11.14 you’ll spend on a replacement takeout meal.

If the Office Lunch Bandit were to steal one of your lunches every month for a year, that will add up to you losing around $210 total, CNBC reports.

Lowdown dirty for sure, but “sociopathic monster” seems a little over the top.

I just don't understand how a person could knowingly go into a company fridge/lunch area and steal someone they work withs lunch. I understand if you accidentally eat someone elses thinking it was yours.

But, to purposely sneak in, take someones lunch and then eat it with no conscience is unfathomable. Even more unfathomable that 18% of people admit it, many more doing it and not admitting for sure.

How does a person like this justify this behavior? I know there are a lot of shitty people in this world, but, for someone to continually do something like this speaks volumes as to their character.

FYI- never had my lunch stolen

One time I had a coworker tell me I could have their lunch, since they had a meeting and I was just gonna eat a sandwich. They said it was in the red bowl in the fridge.

I grabbed the red bowl and then drove home to eat it while watching TV pantsless. Went to throw it in the microwave and noticed it was not the meal I expected.

Decided it was too late to fix the situation so I ate it, washed the bowl, and stealthily returned it to the fridge.

Still feel a little bad about it.

No, but I did steal my 8th grade teacher's lunch and ate it at a pep rally. Got three licks and it was worth it.

I never stole a co workers lunch but I threw a ton of them in the trash!

Look, if you put it in the fridge for a day or 2 that is cool but when it is in there long enough that the mold has grown mold you need to stop leaving your lunch in there where it can stink up and infect the others in there. Also, cover it when you have the chance as nobody wants to see or smell some of the stuff you put in there.

Seriously folks, a little consideration goes along way.

Man, I keep telling you to stop throwing my bacteria cultures away! And for the last time, that refrigerator is for samples only. It's not for your vegan hamburgers and tofu pasta you hipster Bobby Flay.

Man, I think that is the first time I have ever been called a hipster

I am more a burgoo (basically road kill stew) and bourbon kind of fellow.

Gross. Who knows who made it, how they handled their food, or how old it is. I agree with the person who called these people sociopaths. You obviously give zero fricks about yourself to just not consider any of this stuff and to eat someone else’s lunch.

I had one coworker spill another coworker's plate of spaghetti onto the floor in front of the break room refrigerator. He ( the spiller) proceeded to scoop up the spaghetti off the floor and back onto the plate and put the plate back onto the shelf in the refrigerator.

The worst I’ve ever done is use someone’s hot sauce to add to my food. And after I ate I told them that I did it and would be happy to buy the next bottle. They laughed and said who cares use it any time.
