Should tell them “I’ll help you for a week then I have my own stuff to take care of”.

Eight years helping my mother with alzheimers. 16 years helping my SO with chronic treatment resistant depression. Two years helping my dad with congestive heart failure. They're all dead now. You do what you have to do and then you look back and wonder how you survived it. My dad has been gone 2 1/2 months and I'm still in the process of shutting down his business. We haven't even thought about doing a succession yet. I'm worn flat out.

I have several people who rely on me and then go to work with people who lack critical thinking skills. It is pure joy not to have to be in control for even a small period of time

Years helping step dad who was 60 miles away. Many weeks doing that route daily. (round trip)

You need a break otherwise you will burn out. Trust me it happen to me and I suffered a breakdown

What’s annoying is people making no plan for their life…just expecting or hoping others will help. My mom won’t help me help her get everything in order. She’s just gonna f me over when she dies and I’m stuck as an only child 2 states away trying to figure out her mess she won’t let me know about.

Thanks but I dont think of it that way. I wish circumstances were different and none of it had been necessary. I hope I helped but there's so much I could have or should have done differently or better.

I spent 8 or 9 years helping 2 80 year old parents.
This is why I left Baton Rouge.
I wouldn't do it ever again and it's because I had 4 siblings that rarely lifted a finger to help. I would have insisted that their selfish asses contributed.
I had to give up a 10 day trip because Sisterwitch #1 wouldn't go to my parents' house 3 miles away 3 times a day to administer eye drops and refused to help at all. My mother had macular degeneration in her good eye and could only see peripherally in the other. So maintaining what sight she had was top priority.
Both parents were having old people issues and were fall risks.

Absolutely cut an energy vampire from your life. Temporary help is one thing, but a constant needy person (often due to their own life’s choices) is another. When someone feels anxious or drained from another person it’s time to cut loose.

I'm doing it now.
My niece and nephew are now living with me because their parents suck arse.
It's been around six months and it's extremely taxing.
Not sure how I'm surviving to be honest.
