Should tell them “I’ll help you for a week then I have my own stuff to take care of”.

That way you set an initial boundary

I have several people who rely on me and then go to work with people who lack critical thinking skills. It is pure joy not to have to be in control for even a small period of time

Energy vampires, you cut them from your life.

You need a break otherwise you will burn out. Trust me it happen to me and I suffered a breakdown

I spent 8 or 9 years helping 2 80 year old parents.

This is why I left Baton Rouge.

I wouldn't do it ever again and it's because I had 4 siblings that rarely lifted a finger to help. I would have insisted that their selfish asses contributed.

I had to give up a 10 day trip because Sisterwitch #1 wouldn't go to my parents' house 3 miles away 3 times a day to administer eye drops and refused to help at all. My mother had macular degeneration in her good eye and could only see peripherally in the other. So maintaining what sight she had was top priority.

Both parents were having old people issues and were fall risks.
