We took a vacation to Destin one summer and my little brother and his friends found another group of kids around their age and would hang out with them the last few days of the trip around a sandbar. The morning we left our beach house we found heard that earlier that morning one of the girls they were hanging out with got killed by a bull shark around said sandbar.
That girl was a friend of my daughters. Still very sad.

I used to date a midget back in the early 90's, she fell off a bar stool at the Paradise lounge in Houma and now she's paralyzed from the waist down.

I have more sympathy for you than I do your midget cousin.

Sometime when I was in high school, a guy that went with me to high school and he took me home from school, his younger sister was the girl killed by the bull shark in Destin ~13-14 years ago...me and my family were on our way to Destin at the time too (I never got in the water that summer)

Nah, but I got bitten on the toe by a crab once.

Yeah, we all know the same people.
My brother was in her class. Sad sad stuff. Good family too.

Being killed by a shark is one of the most selfish things a person can do

Damn thats horrible. I'm surprised that someone with that kind of physical condition would be allowed in that environment.

There aren't many fatal attacks on the panhandle. There has only been one fatal attack in Destin since 1900.
The last fatal attack in Destin, I'm assuming that it was your brothers friend, was June of 2005 with someone on a boogie board. A 14 year old female by the name of Jamie Marie Daigle was killed by a 6' bull shark.
The panhandle, generally, is very safe when it comes to sharks. You'd be shocked at how many are out by the second breaker, but they're not interested in people.
