One night my wife was driving and hit a deer. She said to get out and check to see if it was OK. I got back in the van and said, “No, it’s dead.” She replied, “I meant the van you moron.”

I've been to quite a few motorcycle rallies and most of them are held in the mountains, either the Ozarks, Smokies or Rockies. I don't know if I can recall even one of the 4-5 day period of all those events that someone didn't either hit a deer or have a very close call.
My post above happened at a rally in N. Georgia in the mountains around Suches and Helen. Lots of twisty two lane roads up that way.

I was driving home one evening pulling my tractor. My wife and I were 1 mile from the house. I thought I had a blow out the truck moved so hard. the deer nailed my rear quarter panel. Pulled over and saw the deer in the ditch. Went home and unloaded the tractor and went and picked it up. The sheriff deputy I called about it helped me skin the deer out in my back yard. Most expensive back strap I have ever had.

My family has hit a deer probably 5 times.
Most dangerous was when I was a kid and we were driving up to our lakehouse around thanksgiving at night. Look to right at lights on a barn, look back and big deer is standing middle of the lane. Because it was snowy dad didn't even touch the brakes. Just pummeled it head on. We weren't wearing seatbelts of course (it was the 80s) and mom spilled Southern Comfort on the dash, which they had been passing back and forth.
Passing guy in a station wagon asked if he could take the deer.
Also clipped a fawn when towing a trailer, dad and his buddy hit one with buddies truck (the rack is on the wall at our place up north), and a few other similar incidents to those...all on our way to or from the Northwoods.
Another time saw a deer running through a clearing, took one step up onto the road and jumped clear over a pickup truck with a cap on it that was just ahead of us. Pretty damn impressive athleticism.

No but I hit a javelina last fall in west Texas. I was doing about 75 in the middle of night and came over a low rise and there he was.. It was either hit him or drive off the road..
It tore up the front bumper real bad and did about $2,000 worth of damage.

The animal is going to be the right choice about 99% of the time. They move a lot easier than trees.

Had one jump over the hood of my snowmobile while I was doing about 80mph one dark night. Never saw it until it was right there, lit up by my headlight.
Puckered up a bit with that one. Probably would have killed me had I been there a tenth of a second sooner.

That’s terrible.
My dad and his buddy hit a Brahma bull in a 1967 GTX when he was 15. This was in Watson on HWY 16. The fog was terrible and back in the day there were thick woods and shite along 16. The bull just walked right into the road. Luckily they weren’t injured too bad. According to my grandfather, dad was more upset about his GTX getting totalled

Does this look like it's "Closer To Fine" to you?

Yep. My truck had a front bumper spare tire holder and he bounced right off dead as a doornail.

I was going out to my dads to go deer hunting. I went hunting that afternoon and didn't see anything. I was spending the night and hunting in the morning. Well that night I went to the store and on the way back, I almost hit a fricking deer. I saw it jump over a fence and was running across the lanes and I was so so close to hitting it. I really don't know how I didn't hit it. Of course I didn't see any deer the next morning. In hindsight I should have ran it over and told everyone I shot it.

The most deer I've ever seen in my life in one area of a state was when I was visiting a friend up in Bloomington, Indiana and he took me riding in the hills of Amish country. Every turn in the road we saw deer all over the place as the headlights swept the area.
I couldn't believe how many deer we saw that night, and it really wasn't a long ride. Probably no more than an hour or so once we got to the area where it was heavily populated with Amish families.

Had it happen twice. Fortunately very minor damage both times.

4am. Cold night w a little snow in S Dakota. Huge buck v. 1999 SuperDuty. Buck lost but i had to pull over and use a tow strap around a power pole, to pull my front bumper away from the tire. Fortunately had good insurance.
