re: Ever had a family member cut out of a will?

Here goes—-My Dad raised me after a divorce. We were very close . Even unusually close. He was a kind Dad. Very supportive, never discouraged me. I idolized him. Then He married my stepmother when I was 16. Everything changed.
After HS graduation, I moved to an apartment off the LSU campus. When I returned a week later she had cleared my room out and converted it into a closet. I was no longer welcome. My father owned a business, my interaction with him was at his business. I never spent a SINGLE night at home after leaving . That means that I would stay at a 10,000 sq ft frat house by myself for a month over Christmas vacation or sleep on a couch somewhere. Totally cut off from family life.
When I graduated I moved away, found work, got married, started a family . I returned in my 30s and had three children. But my father never invited me to his new home or out to dinner even with the grandkids. Eventually our interactions dwindled because I was tired of the disrespect. But I never raised my voice or challenged him to defend his choices , I accepted them . He did what his wife demanded. His wife wanted him entirely for herself.
I have three great kids. Great students, hard workers, relentlessly optimistic, talented musicians , just great kids. He has not spoken to them since 2003. No cards, no presents nothing. My daughter won a state championship in gymnastics? He has no idea. My other daughter is on the Deans List and has 50 hours credit after her freshman year at LSU while working two jobs and playing in a band ? He has no idea. My son getting his first paying guitar gig at 16 ? He has not a clue.
Now - get this- I still believe he is a good and kind man. He’s just lost. His wife is Borderline personality, bi-polar etc. Her cold heart and sick mind imprisoned him. I choose to forgive him, pity him, pray for him, love him in my heart even though I am his only child and have had no contact with him. There is now too much water under the bridge to ever have one. It would be too weird and too sad.
When he dies, I will cry and I will grieve. But I will not attend his funeral. I would assume all inheritance would go to her children and that I might get a nasty insult of some kind in the mail. That’s it. That’s as good as it gets for me and my kids with him.
Acceptance. I accept his decision. I am not attached to anger. I am not attached to resentment. He has a right to his own journey and if it doesn’t include my family that is sad, but it’s life. I will love him in my heart until the day I die. My family is just not part of his journey and my responsibility is to insulate my wife and children from any negativity that surrounds him. Acceptance.

nope, no one in my family has enough money to worry about

I know a few people who got cut out. One for theft of family items and being an overall a-hole to siblings for decades. Another for being a shitty son who abandoned the family and only came back in the end to collect inheritance. And one because she married a guy the family hated so she was cut out after the wedding and they never spoke again.

Yup. But not on bad terms. Took a loan against future inheritance. Not sure that counts for what your talking about.

Yeah. Two sons. One was an addict and in and out of jail and rehab. Father cut him out of his will but the guy OD'd anyway.

Most people, I'd say, would answer the phone if it was someone they "don't care" either way about.
Sounds more like you're avoiding him.

Yes
When my grandfather died he cut my cousin who at the time had drug problems.

I'm not looking forward to the showdown that's going to inevitably happen when my Grandmother on my Mom's side passes away.
My two cousins are POSs. One is an addict and both have kids they don't take care of (they live with my Aunt/Uncle and leave the kids to my Aunt to raise). They're in their 20s and have never consistently kept jobs, don't pay their own bills, barely graduated HS, etc.
There's some conflicting info on who my Grandmother is leaving the house to. She told me and my late brother several years ago that she was leaving the house to the grandkids (there were four between me, my brother, and my two cousins). My Mom is under the impression that she is leaving the house to her and her brother. There have already been comments made, in either situation, that one of my cousins wants to buy mine and my brother's portion/my Mom's portion of the house for her and her "son". She'll live in that house over my dead body.

I'm fairly certain one of my cousins was cut out of his parents will.
For the main reason is that he hasn't had any contact with the family in decades.
I'm not sure his brothers know his whereabouts. The cousin may not even know that his parents have passed away.

shite, I sort of was
Dad died and I was supposed to replace him on my grandparents will. He changed everything to me (guns, savings bonds, etc.) and forgot to change his name to mine on the actual money they had. Once his siblings noticed, they didn’t give me a dime
It’s all good.. would have been nice to have some free change and not work a bunch of shite jobs during college, but it’s all good

My uncle left his x/wife, adopted daughter and 2 birth daughters (pill & meth heads)out. left me and my dad everything. x wife went in his house, while he was sick in hospital found his will and confronted him about it, made him feel guilty and changed it, left his x,the meth head daughter and me and my dad a 1/4 of his estate. Oh and he's making his son take a DNA test before he gets what's left for him...it's not much but, the DNA test would probably cost that much..

My grandparents were planning on giving everything to the grandchildren apart from my brother who my dad had with his second wife. They met him a couple of times but basically refused to acknowledge him.
After my grandma died, my grandad, aunt and dad obviously had discussions about the will etc. He changed it to everything split 50:50 between the two of them.
Not because they were jealous etc. But my dad told him that it was so ridiculous he refuse to acknowledge my brother he’d tie it up in litigation for years on years.
I consider it a good thing I’ve technically been written out of it, even if it would have been a decent lump of change.

My siblings and I grew up with my grandparents. My grandfather passed away a few years ago.
Since then, we’ve been begging my grandmother to blow it out and spend every last dime enjoying the time she has left.
But they both grew up during the Great Depression, so she won’t do it.
I love that woman to death, and my siblings do to. We’ve all told her that we want her to spend everything, and we’ll happily have her live with us and take care of her every need. Wish she would let us because It would take me another lifetime to come close to repaying her for raising us
