Evacuated from Nola to Mountain Brook, Alabama

I haven’t heard a siren, potholes, or a COVID mask in 8 days.
Super friendly people, pretty good food selection, nice schools, great selection of parks and kid friendly activities. This place is like Lakeview turned up the dial to 10 and never looked back.
After 8 days, I can without a doubt say that this little piece of Birmingham is better than anything Nola has to offer.
Wife and I have spoken a few times about dropping Nola and moving here.

Where did you evacuate to during Katrina? I’ve heard similar things from people who evacuated to nice areas after Katrina, especially families with kids. They left NO and never looked back.

Bruh Mountain Brook is one is the nicest places to live in the entire country
You need to get out more.

I was fresh out of college during Katrina and we evacuated to Baton Rouge.
This is my first time ever spending an extended about of time in Alabama and we love it.

I can’t afford the Brook, but come on over to Hoover.

Alabama doesn’t hate its taxpayers like NOLA either

But If you do need your NOLA fix, you only need to drive about 2 miles and the Ham will provide.

It is better in every single way
Moving there in 300 days
And can’t be more excited

NOLA is a shithole. It's been getting by on name alone for years now. This might be the final straw for the people that just like to say they're from New Orleans.

Yeah, Downtown Bham will feel like you’re in the Lower 9th Ward
However UAB has a very nice campus in the middle of a shithole

We are seriously considering it.
Our kids are young enough; 3, 5 and 7 that a move wouldn’t totally disrupt their social circle.
Only downside I can see is that the grandparents wouldn’t be available at a moments notice…but I can live with that.

My long run group goes through Mnt Brook every Sat AM. The amount of people out running, walking, or biking on Sat AM is amazing. Wealthiest zip code in Alabama.

Birmingham proper is pretty meh to me but some of the outlying areas are very nice. They also aren't 30-40 miles away from the city. My wife's family all lives around there so I'm in that area a lot.
