Best thing for the pups. The vet will give you sedatives to give the dog prior to his arrival. My dog was snuggled in her bed, never knew what was happening.

I never understood why we keep suffering terminally sick humans alive rather than allowing euthanasia.
We do it is called Hospice.

Also, if someone is terminally ill and wants to die, there are innumerable ways for him/her to do it via suicide.

You wanna die? Go ahead, just don't be a puss and expect someone else to do it for/to you.

No such thing as 'assisted' suicide. There is suicide, and there is homicide. If I cause your death, whether you want me to or not, it's homicide.

I never really got why we put dogs down rather than keep treating them.
It's sad.

Sad is watching your dog with congestive heart failure go through kidney failure and slowly waste away. A bullet can be very humane.

It's sad, but it's usually done out of love. A suffering animal with no other options is better off dead. So are humans.

Veterinarians have the highest suicide rate by profession. It's assumed to be because it's depressing to euthanize your own patients on a daily basis.

remember that there was a sweet, beautiful gray muzzled Golden Retriever with those sad and empathetic eyes and I figured that it was in line too.

I know the feeling. My dad got a golden retriever 6 months before I was born. Dog lived till I was 16 yrs old. She got to the point where she could barely walk, couldn't see, hear, nothing. Just layed there mostly in pain from arthritis. Was a great duck dog. My dad loved that dog and he had to finally put her down. Took her into the back yard, petted and hugged her then shot and buried her. Only time I've seen him cry my entire life. I don't think he even cried when his sister died suddenly of a heart issue

We hold them as they are euthanized because the disease has affected them so thoroughly that they hardly know we are there. I won't go into symptoms, but at some point we take the pain away for them.

The woman who works the desk at the vet clinic said that she had worked at the clinic long enough to start to see dogs euthanized that they had treated since they were puppies. She said it was really bothering her.

My Dad, Marine lifer and vet of WWII, Korean and Vietnam, is about as mentally tough a guy that you could meet. He had a lot of foxhounds, and would regularly have to put them down as they aged. One day he came to me and said "I'm not doing it any more, I can't stand to do one more" and he has never done one since.

I had always heard that it was dentists who had the highest suicide rate (this isn't a troll post, I've heard this "fact" many many times).

When I had to put my Beagle to sleep I held back in the room after it was done until I could compose myself.

Sure enough, when I head out to the front of the vets office, the first person that is coming in had a Beagle with them that looked strikingly like my dog.

I cried like a bitch all over again.

Looks like vets are #4, Dentists #3.

No argument here, but maybe people would be as good as dogs if we treated them as good as dogs?
