We intentionally re-scheduled an annual trip to NOLA because I didn’t realize it was Festival of the Essence.

I just can’t deal with that AND the heat

Prolly a good call

Essence is a million times better than a bunch of racist rednecks in the city in July.

Yeah racist blacks are so much cooler than racist whites.

Ignoring the top reason I see. How progressive of you.

This event is over 20 yes old. I think it’s just run its course

The people running it seem like they have gotten lazy

Also, who still has magazine subscriptions?

You would have thought they would have gone the way of the dodo bird by now especially a magazine that appeals to such a rather specific demographic.

It was 10PM and the Isley Brothers and Baby Face were playing, which would attract an older crowd. And from what I understand a lot of older black people don't like these younger people coming up today. The under 30 crowd. So its likely the older people who would normally be there don't feel its worth being around the younger people to see these artist.

What is the deal with Target? I was reading comments to a post about Essence Festival. Evidently Target was a sponsor and some were boycotting because of that. And evidently there are new organizers. Some people who live in NO say they didn't even know about it because it wasn't advertised.

It had very little to do with the time. Essencers are still partying then every other night. Lauryn Hill is just a POS. Hate to see

A 2:30 a.m. headliner is laughable and undoubtedly affected attendance even if some of the crowd is the type to stay up partying all night. And maybe Lauryn Hill isn't popular enough anymore to make people want to wait around for a show that eventually ended at 3:30 in the morning or whatever. I mean, how hard is it to get the acts on and off stage on time. Jazz Fest has a bunch of stages with a gazillion acts and manages to do it.

GloRilla, in a tight, pink cropped top that matched those of her dancers, was all tats and swagger as she gave a "middle finger to all my haters" literally in "Bad Bih 4 Ya" and figuratively in "F.N.F. (Let's Go)."

Must be a luxury to overbook acts like that. Doesn't sound like the festival must've done too badly if that was the only headline-worthy incident.

Apparently Target donated money to Trump's inauguration fund.

Sheeeit. I was at Bonnaroo in my early 20s and didn’t have the patience to stay up for a 3:30am Kanye West set back when he was at the top of his career.

Cant imagine staying up that late for some b-list nostalgia acts.
