This is messed up. I had a hotel room rented with the disabled bathroom because it’s got the big tub and I already bought the ribs and charcoal

Still can’t believe how many of you confuse the crowds that attend this event vs the Bayou Classic

No confusion here, only marginally better than Bayou Classic crowds.

Unfortunately, No way Jazzfest, French Quarter Fest, or anything with "Fest" in its name goes forward this year.

How sad. Yet another large event in the nation forced to go dark due to the virus...

By happenstance, I was in NOLA once during Essence Fest. Never, ever, ever again.

Probably a good idea though. 70% of COVID 19 deaths are 100% of the demo that attends Essence

More like 99%. There’s a few fat wives that go.

So who's going to loot and rob the city on that weekend now?

Yep, that's the sentiment I keep hearing from the folks I know working in the service industry when these "Black" festivals take place in cities----and I know it sounds prejudiced, but you can't argue with the truth.

Same thing takes place in Daytona Beach when "Black Bike Week" happens. There are some restaurants and bars that would rather shut down for the event than deal with it.

A few years back I was down there that weekend. I'm telling ya'll, other than some of the local hood rats hanging out on Canal or around Bourbon, it's not a bad crowd at all.

I was attending some kind of stupid rock show at House Of Blues because my friend got us upstairs VIP passes and had free food and drinks.
Rock-n Doopsie must not have cared about trying to hook up with any of the fine black sisters in town because he was HOB the whole time with some white woman.

New Orleans is fricked.

What did that city have outside of the tourist industry?

Oil is at an all time low and all tourist related industries will get crushed by this.

It is time for NOLA to figure out how to diversify or die.

Well, when you've got leadership who can't get their shite together with the proper channels to get a collapsed hotel with dead bodies in it for months on end cleaned up, how the hell do you expect them to change the economic structure of a city.

That's so far above their heads it would be like trying to teach lab rat calculus.

I used to work Essence. No problem with that crowd as all. I assure you, they were mostly out of towners who want nothing to do with the locals

So does this mean the restaurants around the Quarter won't be closed for "repairs" now?
