Anyone own any of those expensive AF ergonomic chairs for back pain?

My back been hurting since an accident a few months ago and I'm considering getting a $1400 Herman Miller Aeron Chair.

Anyone own one? Was it worth it?

The fascination with imports amazes me. What’s wrong with American chairs. They were good enough for our grandfathers.

I've used an X-Chair for over a year now and have had no back pains whatsoever. Was tough getting used to it at first but after a few weeks I started to notice a difference from my previous leather office chair. Around $700 at Louisiana Office Supply iirc.

I have had minor scoliosis for as long as I can remember. I am very sedentary and work from home/am on the computer 24/7. So part of the reason I got this chair was due to the fact that I was having lower back pains off and on with my old leather chair. I haven't had any since really, which is saying a lot.

I have an Aeron. It has been a major factor in completely destroying my back.

I’ve got an aeron. Works for me. More or less everything is adjustable so you can dial it in to your liking.

Are you overweight? Not insinuating anything. There may be a less expensive option.

I have the Herman Miller Embody. For me, the point of an ergo chair is that it’s not so much about being comfortable in the chair, It’s that I feel great after 8-10 hours of sitting in the chair. My previous chair which was some 8-10 year old Office Depot chair gave me back pain as I started working remotely from home.

I’m sitting on a Humanscale Saddle stool and it’s perfect for your back. No back rest at all. Knees well below your waist.

I've been told all the pipefitters need to learn to code.

I have a fancy office chair - not $1400 fancy, but fancy nonetheless. The thing that helped my back more than anything was a $200 standing desk platform I put on my desk. I'll work sitting down for an hour, then work for an hour standing up, and on and on. It has a little lever I pull and it slowly raises up via hydraulics. Big enough for a laptop and a 2nd monitor.

If you're going to PT or seeing a doc for your back issue, perhaps asking one of them what would be best for that area of your back before investing?

I was so miserable that parting with the amount of money I did was totally worth it for me (though my company was able to get some deals from the Herman Miller retailer). I strongly suggest sitting in the chair to see if it is comfortable and fits you, otherwise buy from whoever has the best return policy in case the chair feels uncomfortable after long days.

TL;DR $1500 before discounts chair is worth it for me

Buy it renewed on Amazon for about half that.

I have used them quite a bit. I actually should have two renewed ones arriving today for our home office. I haven’t sat in one in about 6 years, but the wife and I both agreed we liked them and would spring for them. They were our go-to study chairs during school. They had them in a few locations around campus. There are probably plenty of good office chairs out there. I bought a knockoff of it and had it at my desk during residency, but I left it there as a gift to the next guy. It was definitely a comfortable chair, but it was of far lower quality than an actual Herman Miller Aeron.
