Due to a high level of unexpected thermal generation outages and forecasted low wind generation, operating reserves for ERCOT are expected to be low in the afternoon and evening. Please help conserve electricity by reducing your consumption

How about we stop relying on unreliable sources of energy that we have no way of disposing of once the equipment stops functioning. It amazes me that even in Texas we rely so heavily on green energy that its causes us power supply issues.

No wind......................Windmills are almost 20% of texas power generation. Black outs occurred in Kingsville texas yesterday afternoon

This has happened for like that last 10 days in a row. It's fine.

Kind of ironic given the amount of wind turbines you see in south Texas at night.

ETA: Any dumbass that signs up for a renewable power plan should have their power cutoff first in a brownout/blackout.

That isn't why our grid is having problems.

"Black outs occurred in Kingsville texas yesterday afternoon"

Link? There have been no ERCOT/state grid outages this year.

Grid is fine. We have always had conservation on high demand days.

First, stop calling that shite "green" energy. It's not.

Second, having 1/5th of power generation capacity tied to something we can't control is absolutely a large factor. Drive by the coal plant on 71 in between Houston and Austin, and you'll see a pile of fuel (coal) 8 or 9 stories high for everyone to charge their Teslas off of. That pile of coal doesn't take the afternoon off because of a lack of wind.

And it's a straight fricking lie.

The state's population has expanded faster than new infrastructure has been built and there is little incentive to do much about it b/c power companies prefer a model that makes it easier for them to jack rates up to the Nth degree.

They’re running nearly 6000Mw of reserves. They’ll be fine.

Stop talking about something you know nothing about.

The answer from the idiot left? MOAR GREEN ENERGY.

Increase windmills by 10x so the 10% (available) becomes 100% (available). As an example, say there is 100MW of wind generation but only 10MW is available due to low winds. Increase it to 1,000MW of total wind farms so we can get 100MW of generation!

Problem solved!

Ah, the old infrastructure trope. Do we need another "build back better" plan to fix it? What about the Inflation Reduction Act? MOAR.

Or how about we build more than one nuke unit over decades? That's permitting, the EPA, your green loonies, and the rest of the federal bureaucracy that prevents plant construction for decades.

The fact that this country isn’t 100% nuclear is just idiotic on every single level.

Like mentioned Wind has been absolute garbage the last few days...

Here's a link to ERCOT's Grid and Market Conditions page...you can check the fuel mix to see when the grid is stressed...its due to a lack of output from "Green" energy.

NG putting in the work. Really need much more nuclear bottom line.

This is the part that pisses me off:

quote:

Due to a high level of unexpected thermal generation outages and forecasted low wind generation, operating reserves for ERCOT are expected to be low in the afternoon and evening.

NG has been dogging it for the last 5-6 weeks cause Wind is operating under 10% of capacity.

1. ERCOT has issued conservation warnings repeatedly over for the past several weeks.

2. Per the San Antonio Express News, the warnings are mainly the results of failures at goal- and gas-fired plants.
quote:

On Tuesday, outages at coal- and gas-fired power plants reduced supply for a second day after leaving slim margins to meet demand Tuesday evening. Wednesday is the second day in a row that ERCOT has asked Texans to reduce power use. It had issued conservation notices on four consecutive days ending Sunday due to record-breaking temperatures raising demand for energy.

But hey, never get let the facts get in the way of those anti-renewable energy arguments.

There is thermal supply offline today too. If you posted the entire message you would have included that. Actually, the message started by saying there is unexpected thermal outage. Instead you cherry picked part of the message to fit your propaganda.

I think you are missing the point of the post. I have zero concerns about the grid TODAY. They are sending emails out to people asking them to conserve because they rely on an unreliable energy source. Not to mention how hazardous and radioactive wind mills are once they have to be decommissioned. We sit on ridiculous amount of natural gas and we have sizeable portion of our gid being fed by wind that we can not control.

Unexpected thermal supply issues was the main reason for today's message. Are you saying we should stop using thermal?
