Epiphany: foreigners talk loud on the phone because they're not scared

I've always wondered why it seems that foreigners tend talk loudly on cell phones in public. And I actually kind of hated them for it, "shut up already you Inconsiderate piece of shite"

That was until recently that I realized that in our American culture we are more fearful about what we say. You don't want someone over hearing you and thinking the wrong way about you.

The reason why the foreigners are talking so loud is just because they aren't afraid about being heard. It only seems like they're talking loudly because they're talking louder than the way most of us talk on the phone. We speak more softly out of fear, not out of consideration.

Freedom of speech is not freedom from judgment.
