I pick this baby up this week and begin the long restoration process. Plan on using it as my primary tow vehicle. 1986 with a 454.

fuel mileage is top priority it will have to borrow from things like safety. You can’t make the safest car possible at the same time as the most fuel efficient possible. Biden chose efficient so that’s what they’ll go with
Or you can make it expensive as hell and achieve both. That’s the two out of three you get:
Fuel efficient
Safe
Cheap
You can’t have all 3

Also, how much gas does it actually save?
Maybe a gallon or two the life of the vehicle.
It’s the dumbest feature they’ve added on automobiles in the last couple of decades.

Ford and GM are all in on it.
They are ahead of Toyota and Honda in EV's. And they think this is how they can achieve world dominance again.

CAFE standards are fricking stupid and just hurt our own competitiveness.
High mileage standards help out companies which make small cars like sedans while fricking companies which make trucks, SUVs, and other larger vehicles which are less fuel efficient.
Just because someone can ride in a car the size of a matchbox like a SmartCar doesn’t make it feasible or safe at all.

These moving targets have been imposed and walked back dramatically with alternating administrations; the numbers they purport to achieve don’t have any basis in reality and manufacturers aren’t meeting them anyway; and today’s buyers are choosing the heavier, thirstier, less-efficient options in every fleet. 52 MPG in five years is a nice dream. If history is any indication, that’s all it will ever be.
like the article said, this is all political fodder and means absolutely nothing

I hate this feature. The absolute roughest time on any mechanical device is the starting and stopping of work. It humming along at idle is pittance in terms of wear and tear.
Also, how much gas does it actually save?
It all adds up when you consider the millions of cars globally that have this feature.
I love driving my Ram 1500 and I'll never sell it but I only drive it when I have to like going to the dump or the lumber yard and so on or on short trips to the store or bar. LOL.

My F150 comes with this feature and it's the worst fricking idea ever. You have to disable it every time you start the engine.
My wife's SUV has this feature. Unbelievably annoying. You need to disable it every start up

I'd like an engineer to explain to me how im supposed to be able to tow my camper with an electric vehicle that gets 60mpg.

You do. No one is telling you what to drive. Look I have a truck, but like most responsible people I'm not into blowing coal.
