Entergy...welcome to Louisiana

Moved here last year and received this letter today. What in the actual frick? It's a street light on my property line approx 15 feet from the end of my driveway. Why don't my property taxes cover this? This feels like they're nickel and diming me.

Thank you for being a valued customer of Entergy Louisiana. I am reaching out to let you know about supply chain challenges with certain fixtures and lamps that we use to illuminate homes, businesses, and roadways. According to our records, your account with Entergy Louisiana includes lighting service for at least one non-Light Emitting Diode (non-LED) type light. Entergy Louisiana has become aware that the fixtures and lamps for your type of lighting service have already ceased being manufactured by lighting vendors. Rest assured that Entergy Louisiana will continue to handle maintainance for your lighting service. In the event that your fixture will be replaced with an equivalent, updated LED fixture. If this happens, your bill will be adjusted to reflect the new fixture type and the then current-LED rate, potentially resulting in a small increase in your monthly rate for lighting service. So they gonna charge me a monthly fee for "lighting service" to change an LED bulb that lasts for 10 years?

Entergy also charges a fee when you mention them on Tiger Droppings.
It may be a light the previous property owner had installed. If so, you can probably tell them you don't need it anymore.

I work with Entergy daily. While they will absolutely nickel and dime you. They also don’t just put a street lamp on every pole for free. People request those. I imagine one of the owners before you requested that light from Entergy.

For the record, it isn't an LED bulb. Its a whole new fixture that doesn't have bulbs. But yes, you are getting charged for it because they are a bit more expensive than the non-LED. Not much, but still more. Pretty standard practice for a utility and not Louisiana specific. So you can go right back to hating all states.

Yeah, I got that one too.
I do have a light on the property line between me and the neighbor. The next one over is about 5 houses away. My neighbor and I are getting the most benefit from them, so shouldn't they pro-rate the cost for the neighbor 3 houses away?
Looks like they're excusing that as replacement for out of date lights that they should have replaced long ago and think we should pay for them.

Is this why they haven't changed the street light bulbs along I-10 in Louisiana for years? Some areas have more broken light bulbs than operating ones. And there is still almost zero adoption of LEDs when most other populated areas have long since started the retrofit process for that.
I know some great people that work at that company, but generally Entergy absolutely sucks at maintaining their shite. I'm not surprised if their procurement methods are as lacking as their maintenance. But I also wouldn't be surprised if they are getting heat for lack of maintenance of the many different types of lighting that they are responsible for and blaming it on broad and non-specific "supply chain" shortages to buy time.

Entergy maintains most of the street lights and freeway lights and residential lights on utility poles in Louisiana are owned and maintained by Entergy. You have to report any outages to Entergy here: Entergy - Report Outage
You might have a specific charge on your bill for that light on the pole in your yard - if that light has been out for a while, you absolutely should get the charge removed until they fix it.

If you don’t want it, have it removed. At my job, we pay for many street lights. I have had some removed and others redistributed to lower the count that we pay for. Generally, I call the provider, give the pole number and tell them what I want done with the light.

I had to turn electricity on in a house my mom owned that we were selling. The shadiness and money grubbing I experienced in 4 months as an Entergy customer eliminated any possibility that I'd ever move back to LA unless they deregulate. Nightmare company.
