re: Entergy's smart meter - question about the radiation it puts out?

Benefits of smart meters:

- Eliminates manual monthly meter readings
- Monitors the electric system much more quickly
- Makes it possible to use power resources more efficiently
- Provides real-time data that is useful for balancing electric loads while reducing power outages (i.e., blackouts)
- Enables dynamic pricing, which raises or lowers the cost of electricity based on demand
- Avoids the capital expense of building new power plants
- Helps to optimize income with existing resources
- Far greater (and more detailed) feedback regarding energy use
- Enable consumers to adjust their habits in order to lower electricity bills
- Reduces the number of blackouts and system-wide electricity failures

Eventually, can have a generator plugged in somewhere and know an elderly person requires oxygen and electric down the road, they can almost instantly switch to provide power for that house.

It's common in almost every thread the lack of open mindedness and certainly lack of research. Its not just this one individual in this thread.

In Houston there are many sites that allow the homeowner to view their daily usage for free down to the detail of every 15 minutes. Just need to enter your smart meter number. This will allow you to see how many kwhr per day you are using and when they occurr. You know when your AC kicks on, you should see an immediate spike then, same for dryer. Your base with only a few lights and refrigerator, chest freezer,
etc.. would be .3 -.4 kwhr.

Here is my usage from Monday, Jan 7th, 2019, used 20 kwhr. Just had a few lights on and with kitchen fridge, chest freezer, and wine fridge running. I washed clothes around 4pm and put them in the dryer around 8pm. You can see instantly when the dryer came on.

The smart meters also allows instant change from one provider to another. If you don't like the rate you are paying or unhappy with service, simply connect to a different one. In the past there was a fee for connection as they had to pay someone to physically come out and turn the power on. Now its all done from an office.

The data at most can be used for is seeing tendencies in which you are home, but I have to break the news to you if you own a NEST this already does that.

Why are you worried about this?

There are about 20 other devices in your home that collect data in this way such as the computer you are using to type your posts, or worse the mobile device that registers your GPS position every millisecond.

No. Not one. It’s better technology and it’s not exactly new. The only reason would be that you’re an analog meter enthusiast and think the old meter looks cool on your house or you’re a tinfoil hat wearer.

You can still choose.

People bitch about their electric bills, but the truth is Entergy has some of the lowest rates in the country. What typically drives high bills is inefficient usage, which is a problem smart meters can help solve.

Why are you adverse to managing your electric better? You will learn you can save a great deal of money just by using your dryer when the AC is not running. Move your AC temp up 1 degree then run the dryer. This will be about 30 minutes before the AC kicks.

Smart meters have been implemented for well over a decade in many cities across the country. Its not like its some new technology.

But I live in South Louisiana and want to use my dryer between the months of January and December.
