Awesome news for Thoth and really any parade that runs the magazine route.

That’s my favorite part of the parade.

Mine as well. Looking forward to catching the parades at Le Bon Temps Roule again.

which frees up NOPD to take those calls.

Or they will do what they always do and put 3 NOPD and one outsider on a block together.

Some krewes are offering $100+ per hour.

I think the going rate they agreed to with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s office is 50 dollars an hour and 75 dollars an hour on Mardi Gras day. The new issue is that the current rank and file NOPD officers and OPSO deputies were not going to make those same rates so the is a push to increase the rates to those numbers.

Even at those rates, it might be time to dust off the resume and work on POST certification. Then work as a reserve deputy during the year and just do Mardi Gras detail work.

Now is OPSO providing mileage, housing, and meals, or is that out of your pocket.

Any update on this? Has the City made it official, yet?

I think the deadline for parades to submit plans to City, is today.

Latest I’ve seen says deadline may be extended and more details should be released mid day. I’m guessing PANO is putting pressure on NOPD to block this unless the city will also sweeten the pot for the NOPD based on the last sentence.

quote:

Monday marks the deadline for Orleans Parish Mardi Gras krewes to submit their parade route security plans to the city for approval.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell set Monday as the deadline for krewes to secure enough law enforcement in order to return to their original routes.

The deadline is set for 4 p.m. Monday afternoon, but the city's Chief Administration Officer Gilbert Montano says that deadline could be extended.

Montano says more information is expected to be released midday.

The deadline comes as the NOPD continues to grapple with an officer shortage.

NOPD says they do not have enough officers to staff all the original routes, but krewes could hire four Louisiana-certified officers per block of their route to fill the gap.

If krewes find the security to cover the route, the city will pay for the officers.

"The mayor, the council, the sheriff and everybody the Mardi Gras krewes, they really are working collectively to ensure this is an opportunity, and it's certainly been a time challenge and an effort challenge but at the end of the day, I think it'll be hopeful," Montano said.

The city is also working to make sure NOPD officers and additional security are all paid fairly.

Right but they can detain/stop a threat and they do have sidearms. So they typically command a little more respect from the public than security guards.

My brother is one of these LEOs who works extra duty at LSU games and will be down at Mardi Gras this season, making a shite ton of money to stand around and make sure people act right.

I mean, that’s helpful if it helps fill in the gaps.

It really is. They been doing it at LSU Game Days for years. They take LEOs from various agencies. You'll see deputies from neighboring parishes as well as Louisiana Probation and Parole officers. They mostly work the parking fields way out on Gourrier and such. They get paid damned good for it. And it's nice to have armed good guys out there all day, including post game.

It has absolutely kept fans and their property safer.

Now if they could only help improve the traffic.
