I hope I get to that point in the future. I'm just a farm hand who happened to be able to swing the grades to an engineering degree.

The celebration is strong with yall this year. I don't recall us going nearly as hard when we finished.

Well you weren't sweating it nearly as hard as we are

You also gotta factor in that I should have finished with yall. The struggle has been very real.

I'm going to be an EIT pretty soon. As far as a PE, I'm not so sure. The company I signed on with doesn't have a PE for me to work under that I know of.

That's not necessarily a problem. The board understands how industry works and that not everyone gets to work under a PE. I sat for and earned my license without ever working under a PE and most of my required time working toward being able to sit for the exam was in a different state. You just have to prove to the board that your work was progressive with increasing responsibility and have good PEs vouch that you are competent to sit in the recommendation letters.

Take the EI exam. Pass it. Start an NCEES record. Work. Take the PE exam. Pass that. If you have that license, it might not help in your career, but at least you've accomplished it and if you ever need to strike out on your own, you have the PE in place to make your own way.

For me, the license has been useful, but there is more importantly a sense of personal pride because I went out and earned what many BSMEs cannot or will not, and it was difficult.

I advise every young engineering graduate to pursue the EI. Pursue the PE. Get every license you can in your discipline. If for the simple fact that you give enough of a shite about your chosen career to go out there and work to earn them, whether or not they're actually useful. They set you apart from others and let prospective employers know that you've at least taken the risk to take the exam and have succeeded.

I hear you, I was probably also being my typical stick in the mud and not paying attention to the shenanigans. But y'all worked hard and deserve it, get off of here and enjoy yourself!

I've enjoyed it about as much as I can handle for today. I'm drinking water and trying to get sleepy.

I'm just happy to be this close to done. I should have been in this spot a year ago, but it is what it is.

Hopefully I made the right job choice.

I graduated in mechanical engineering and I'm working as an applications engineer in the oilfield. When I get to design ALS systems it's fun, but I'm thinking about moving into facility engineering or production engineering if I can get hired on. I'm the only engineer and my boss has no clue what to do with an engineer. Sometimes I feel like a super field tech working in the oilfield service industry.

I'm expecting an offer tomorrow...a bit of a transition...from alone in a cube doing analyses to traveling and being the customer contact (sales if you will) basically setting up projects and interpreting the customer's needs - I think. I'm scared as frick. Turned 40 this year though, maybe scared is good?

I will say sales is not easy. You have to push yourself and be disciplined, but compared to the 8-5 plant job there was no comparison for me. You will be surprised how successful and rewarding it is once you establish a good relationship with your customers. Tech sales requires that you help solve your customers problems, and once you do, it is very rewarding both financially and emotionally.

PS- 40 is not too old. I was 38 and I never regret the decision. I loved my work but the only career growth for me was if my boss died.

I am a dam engineer. EE with EIT, don't really need my PE, my company offers nothing for it, but I may end up getting it anyway just to say I did...

Nope, we get absolutely nothing. Well you get to go to classes to get your CE credits and they pay your annual fees to keep the license.

Edit: We do get a $250 one time bonus for getting it, they really love us.

PE in petroleum, as is Mrs. Oilfieldtiger. We haven't met any other PE married couples, but i'm sure there's some out there.

I'm a ChemE and so is my wife. So is my BIL, SIL, and FIL. I'm guessing my kids will both be NBA stars.

I've been out of the ME program for 2 years now. I lurk in the units and sit next to the frac bottoms pumps when it's cold.
