I always forget about those guys. They're pretty awesome. They can custom design anything in CAD and they also sell (in addition to regular diamonds) clarity enhanced diamonds. She won't know the difference (especially if you don't tell her), but you'll be able to get more bang for your buck that way.
If she likes antique style rings with lots of filigree, try Parker. All of those jewelry shops around Town Center and Bocage are pretty legit in their selection and different styles.

I got the ring at blue nile, but she just wanted a normal Tiffany setting, so that was easy

Even if she requested a certain size, I'm sure she wouldn't say no if you got her a 1 carat diamond... People don't get their panties in a bundle when they ask for a certain cut so I don't know why everyone is getting all worked up over the size request.

The only time I ever talked to a girl about possible engagement rings she actually gave me a size that she didn't want it to be bigger than because she didn't want the ring to look gaudy.

Friends and Company Jewlers... Ask for Dave. It's more antique estate rings but they can get you whatever you'd like.

Butters, that was my response in my head too. Even if it's 2.8 ct??? How do you come up with that number? Might as well go with 3!!! Mine is .75 solitaire. Tried on a 1 ct and it looked fake because my fingers are so small.

I mean I can understand a woman saying she prefers a certain cut/shape of diamond/center stone.
But wanting a specific size so you can "one up" someone else should be sending huge warning bells to any guy.
