Jesus Christ some of you hang around the wrong people. Jewelry usually appreciates over time if it’s quality, and can be passed down to your children. I know people who bought 3k rings and I know people that bought 100k rings. If your wife is banging another person it had nothing to do with the ring in the first place.

Paying $14,000 for an engagement ring is ridiculous

The fact that YOU have to blow thousands of dollars just to even possibly initiate this bizarre social construct, wherein you are giving away rights and wealth in a one-sided legal contract, should be your first clue that IT IS frickED.

Why would you halo a stone like that?

You're saying diamond rings appreciate over time? What kind of crack do you smoke

Don't be guilted into spending more than you're comfortable spending. If she is the one, you won't need to buy her with a ring neither of you can afford.

Im saying they hold their value and increase with inflation. But more so colored gems can appreciate. Didn’t know he was 100% going to buy a diamond since he never mentioned it.

Take her to crater of diamonds state park and let her dig for one. Will be more special to her that way cause its something you could do together.

I looked for months on Blue Nile and James Allen. Ended up finding the stone I liked on James Allen. Great experience…highly recommend.

Invest in the stone, not the ring, updating the placement is cheap.

Find a dealer in your area. They can create a setting. If you can’t find one, I believe the company is blue Nile that sells online and has positive reviews.

In terms of budget, start with one carat stone that is graded well for the other C’s, adjust the size from there for price variability. Forget about how much you make, you are buying a product with pretty well defined market. It was over 10 years ago but I got something really nice for like $3-4k (the ring itself was like $200).

Step 1: understand that diamonds are a scam.

Spend accordingly.

I’m not wearing it. Wife likes it and that’s what she wanted. The halo is really small diamonds and doesn’t take much away from main stone.

Don’t go too big or expensive on the first ring.

Plan on getting a big expensive ring when you hit the 20 or 25 year mark.

You’ll know they’re in it for the right reasons, and probably deserve the upgraded ring.

You should be able to afford a ring for $350 easily.

Buy a decent, practical ring and save the money. Revisit the idea of an expensive ring 10-15 years down the road if she turns out to be an actual keeper.

Exactly what I did and it was her idea spent $600 on the engagement ring and $200 on a wedding band. Going to get her something really nice once the little ones get older and our circus calms down.
