It’s no longer a cutting edge start up in an emerging industry. It needs new management.
Keep in mind that Musk doesn't do very much managing for any of his companies. Mostly he comes up with the ideas, sells them to investors, and promotes the hell out of the products.

You forgot about how he's government supported, though it was a loan, which he paid off 10 years ahead of schedule.

FUN FACT: Ebay adopted that model early in their rise when they hired Meg Whitman in 1998. The EBay founders explicitly stated they had no idea how to run a business and Meg had the education and resume to take EBay to the heights that they dreamed.

You know how many people have received business loans from the federal gov't? I find it funny when Musk is attacked for using the same grants that thousands of other Americans have taken advantage of to set up their own businesses.

What about all the electric car subsidies that make his luxury car affordable to the 1%ers?

It would not surprise me. He is simultaneously taking on the auto industry and the oil industry. Y'all think they are just going to sit back and get fricked?

My problem with it is he paid it back with cash he raised from a grossly overvalued share price.

So you don’t like that the share price was higher than you think it should be?
You’re better than this, bruh.

And the new one runs about $40k, so the 1%ers shouldn't care.

But he's a real life Tony Stark.

Maybe, maybe not. There are a lot of people with a lot to gain from Tesla's failure. This is a little different than the rocket explosion; at this point they're claiming the saboteur has already confessed.
Regarding all this "really informed" assessments of Musk; it's obvious most of you haven't spent 5 minutes researching the guy, and most of your info probably comes from seeking alpha or twitter. Is he flawed? Absolutely, but he's no Steve Jobs-type visionary. He's a technical genius/visionary combo, and while it appears he may struggle with macro-scale management, you also have to realize that setting up not one but two highly complex manufacturing companies is scales of magnitude more complicated than a software company like ebay or paypal. It's not so much a failure to execute, his biggest flaw is setting realistic expectations for himself and others. The original Model 3 timeline was beyond aggressive and that's what has led to a lot of the recent criticism.
If you care to spend 60 seconds informing yourself, here's quick take of Musk from one of his SpacEx co-founders.
Personally, he's probably a huge pain in the arse to be around and work for, but I don't understand the hate for a person who is dedicated to improving the country and MANUFACTURING IN AMERICA.
