He's not wrong. Many jobs will be taken over by machines/AI.

UBI will have to become a thing.

The human race is a ridiculous creature.

Even in the Garden of Eden before the fall of man, God intended Adam and Eve to work and tend the garden (Genesis 2:15). Work is what gives us purpose and drive. It seems that Leftists would prefer we all be criminals and welfare queens.

I’ll preface this by saying that I thinkUBI is a horrible thing and we’re headed in a very dark direction overall.

I do think Elon is probably right to some extent about what could happen physically.
However, If we don’t control technology, it will control us. Utopian vision of UBI and robots doing almost all the work is probably physically possible, but it does not take into account human nature, which can be horrible.
Even if productivity by robots went so exponential that UBI could be somehow funded, human nature would never allow the masses to just be good citizens and garden, be artists and enjoy life in a productive manner.
Similar to a spoiled child that has never had to work for anything, mankind would devolve into chaos, complete social deviancy, and ultimately destroy whatever Good was going on.
It would be LBJ‘s great society failure on steroids!

Work is optional now in America. You can live on government assistance in a section 8 house on food stamps.

Is that really what anyone wants?

“Work optional government provided UBI” will only lead to mass unrest and anxiety and personal unsatisfying misery. Want proof? Look at everyone who currently lives that way.

We need guardrails of some sort. I’m scared we end up with 50 million unemployed people who want to work but cannot find jobs.
The boardrooms aren’t going to figure out what to do with displaced workers on their own.
It will increase the gap between the wealthy and the middle class.

So long as there is no scarcity, he’s right .

Mini fusion power generation and water treatment plant the size of a cubic yard ; that would knock out a ton of expense right there. Now, do I think it’ll happen? No way.

A gracious plenty of societies ills today are linked to a lot of free time...I am no Christian but the old adage about idle hands and the devils workshop is pretty spot on for most people. Some will invent things, created beautiful art, play a lot of golf....but many more will drink and eat to excess, get up to all manner of ill shite and cause all sorts of issues. That's assuming he means some sort of UBI...if work is optional but money ain't optional we pretty much have always had that system in place....you can either work, rob or be on the dole if there is one. Work has proven over time to serve society better than the other 2....

He expounds on Rogan's podcast. You should listen to it before forming an opinion based on a headline on TD.

Unless bills all of a sudden become optional. Then work will never be optional.

Why is it so hard for people to consume information without making assumptions? When did Elon ever mention that free equals unfettered access?

His comments are pie in the sky bs on its own. We don't need icing on top.

And none of those people have unlimited access to goods and services.

I wonder the compensation for the guy who gets called into "work" to fix a broken robot.

I don't know. Judging by the size of a lot of those folks and the contents of their shopping carts.
