Well NOLA needs to institute a steel rounds only referendum for all the young entrepreneurs collecting off the books reparations.

That's funny - years ago I recall people saying it was the water that made it different.

Definitely not a problem that is unique to NOLA, but still a problem.. I relocated back to New Orleans about a year ago, ever since then I've been buying bottled water at Costco to drink, make coffee with, etc.. i figured with NOLA being as old as it is, and the news we hear about Flint, MI etc that the water here would suck, and this article just confirmed it.

The S&WB is required to take single water samples at 80 addresses across the city (50 on the East Bank and 30 on the West Bank). Under EPA rules, no more than 10 percent of homes tested can have lead levels at or above 15 parts per billion, or 15 micrograms per liter of water.

Two samples had lead levels above the EPA action level.
The East Bank had an average lead count of 7ppb.
The West Bank had an average of 2ppb.

So 2 out of 50 homes on the east bank or 4% exceeded EPA levels and the sample is taken at peoples homes. This is not ideal but certainly not earth shattering news. New Orleans is riddled with older lines and older houses that have either direct lead pipe or lead based solder used to fit copper pipe. But even without the lead New Orleans water tastes like crap, IMO.

They'll have to get in line to collect from the city. Good luck.

The real story is the polluted soil in NOLA. Katrina actually mitigated it somewhat, but it's still a travesty. LINK

A lot of the pipes in the city are old lead pipes. A lot of the service lines in older homes have lead in them. But the lead has been leaching out in the water for 100 years.

While I have no doubt that levels are "elevated" they aren't enough to hurt you. It's not like we have a lead contaminated water source. We got the MS river. Just some fertilizer to give us a good taste =)

Most of the lines in downtown BR (and Spanish Town) are lead as well.

if you live in NOLA and don't have a bottled water service, you're doing it wrong.
