re: Electricity costs: How do you explain this concept to a female?

Here, the one light that gets left on the most is the dinner table light that has 5 incandescent bulbs. Everyone is happy to turn off the LED bulbs but leave the incandescent ones on all the time.

Some anal sphincter, tight arse MOFO's up in here. As it has been said, do you really think a couple of lights being left on for a few hours is going to make any noticeable difference in their electricity bill? ...maybe $2 -3 dollars, one way or another? fricking relax!
My wife is the one running around freaking out if a TV or light is left on. What's driving this bill is the thermostat and I don't care if the bill is $300 vs. $400 if it means I can keep it at 70 degrees while I sleep.
This bill isn't going to keep me from early retirement or bankruptcy, either way.

Wait... let me get this straight: You get stressed over lightbulbs?
Ever heard, "don't sweat the small stuff?"

You made your bed when you selected a female based on looks over brains. Now you have to lie in it.

Most couples I know split the bills, you take these I'll take these. Just give her the electricity one.
Most men I know with a set of nads, either take care of the bills on their own, or fund all of the bills, and have their wife act as a secretary/accountant and let their wife submit payment out of said funded account.

I get shite sometimes for turning the thermostat up to high in the summer to save energy.
I try to keep the least amount of lights on as possible but I'm admittedly guilty of not unplugging shite I'm not using (i.e. Game systems, phone chargers, etc). I could probably run the dishwasher a little less too.

Perhaps she needs a good talking to, if you don't mind my saying so.

I turn mine up to 78 or 79 during the day and when I come home from lunch it's more than comfortable.

Start randomly taking her shite like shoes purses makeup and when she asks about it tell her you had to pawn it to pay the light bill. You got to speak there language.

Keep mine at 78 as well. With a ceiling fan it feels great. And I don't know any females as dumb as who the OP and others know. My wife, her female friends, any of my friends wives.....they are all smart people.

New place six months ago...
Month #1: no need to run the heat=$50
Month #2: heat running=$240
Me: "Should probably take a look at using the heat less."
Her: "How do you know it is the heat causing it?"
Me: "Do I really have to explain this?"

I went with OT 8 with a delicate touch and Olympic conditioning.
the lights was a bonus I found out later after she moved in.

I try not to complain to much about it. I like the ac on 69 and she is freezing. She likes to put lamps in every room and leave them on 24 7.

So you have a wife that doesn't understand money at all? Insane spending habits and high electric bill? That's a bad combo

Does yours leave every fricking light in the house on too?
Unless you have a gigantic house lights are a tiny fraction of the electric bill so those aren't the issue. Teach them about peak hour plans if you have them, here it is is noon-7 M-F, and that is about the best you can do and just tell them not to do laundry or crank AC during that time. If you are married and/or have a stay at home woman, which I hope you do because its the best, then you are fricked with the bill because everything is on all day and that is when they should be doing their "work" but if you and your woman both have jobs it should he very easy to control. Just turn everything off all day when you leave, don't turn anything on until you get home at 6 or so besides basic AC, any lights you need which won't be much and don't do any heavy electric shite until after 7pm.
