Blanco only had a surplus cause of Katrina and Bush throwing federal dollars at NOLa by the truckload.

"Nearly impossible"? EWE was incredibly intelligent, matching his level of corruption, and over the yrs he developed foolproof ways to make money off of State business. One small example, never provable: a good friend ran a court reporting business & did a lot of work for the State's attys. In case after case after case, a suit against the State would drag on & on, for yrs, no progress. Finally, the State's Atty General's Office would, out of the blue, re-assign the case to an outside law firm. A politically law firm. Bam! The case would wake up, legal fees after legal fees generated by this out side firm. Case would settle, and guess who got an under the table part of the settlement? This amount times the 1000's of suits against the State under EWE. If there was a State nickle involved somewhere, EWE got his share.

I know one of his grandsons fairly well through work, who is middle aged.
And he has a 7 year old uncle.

If he had any sort of moral compass he could've been President. I'm convinced of that.
I don't mean Mother Theresa, I mean just an inkling of humanity. Dude is a piece of shite and those outside of Louisiana would've caught on.

"Vote for the crook, it's important" - Edwin "Fast Eddie" Edwards

I only voted for EWE once and that was when he was in the runoff with David Duke and "vote for the crook--it's important" was the campaign slogan.
I know many one off stories about him but I never met him.
There really are no politicians as smooth and quit witted as EWE on the scene today. I have an "autographed" copy of the book he wrote in with Leo Honeycutt LINK. It was published while he was still in prison so to get an autograph a extended Edwards family member sent him a Avery label and he signed it and the person that gave me the book had it stuck in the book.
I think from what I have read that he was likely guilty of the charges he was acquitted of in New Orleans but the charges that did send him to prison were sort of an overreach. (Eddie DeBartalo got a walk for testimony against EWE.)
I never agreed politically with anything he did but only a fool would deny his intelligence. He is not a man to admire so much but he is a remarkable character.

Edwin is /was a very likeable criminal.
He was just so brazen too. He would make these trips to Vegas and didn’t make any bones about it.
On his taxes he would report millions in winnings ! How is that even possible?! Hmmmm.
I’ll never forget the headline back in the 80’s.-
“Edwards and hundreds of this closest friends charter plane to Las Vegas”.
“Hundreds” ha! Most people have 2-3 close friends but Edwards had hundreds! It was good to be his friend but you had to watch your back because the feds we’re watching.
When he built his big house on the country club of Baton Rouge, the feds were working with the contractor to put taps on the phones, and other surveillance measures inside so they could get dirt on him. They got it.

Hospice is NOT a scheduled death. Its end of life care. There is no set 2 weeks and thats it. Now, it may happen in 2 weeks but its not set.

He got rich way before the casinos
I read a book a long time ago about how they had so many casino approvals (5 or 6) and he had the people wanting them throwing bags of money at him.
Seems like once they awarded the casinos to certain groups one of his side kicks got murdered or Clinton'd or somesuch while Eddie ran off with all the loot

He always proclaimed himself as the champion of the poor, white & black. Yet he stole millions from them, representing their interests in oil & gas leases. He would always insist that one copy of the lease would be in French....the original filed in the courthouse was in English. As one of the only, if not the only French speaking attys back in those days, the figures he read to his clients were not the actual figures in the legal lease. His percent as atty of record was considerably higher in the legal lease. And those as those leases were 20-30 pages of legalese, his clients had no clue.

He’s a very kind man and i hope he passes on to the next life peacefully.
However, he’s a big reason Louisiana is such a shithole.

I flew him on a couple of in state trips, he was a pilot so he wanted to sit up front, and I'd let him fly as much as he wanted to, he made the comment(he was running for re-election I think,) that he got all of the black vote for telling them that he was responsible for all of the set asides, freebies, handouts, etc., that the federal gubment had already given them and they ate it up
