Edgewood Arsenal...one of the most bizarre bases in US military history.

In the post-war years from the late 40s to the mid 70s, the US Army experimented with drugs on its own soldiers. Some being nerve agents, others being hallucinogens in order to obtain knowledge of how they worked, how to use them potentially in battle, and how, if anyway they could be fought off if used against us. They used coercion on the soldiers in various ways to get them to go to the base; and never told them what was being administered to them.
Van Murray Sim headed up the research. And he was, to put it bluntly, a fricking character. He made it a point to test out every psychedelic drug that he used before testing the soldiers. He would slip people LSD and other psychedelics in people's drinks, did it to an entire cocktail party, and one time did it to the entire water supply of the base. People described him as a Dr. Strangelove type of character. He did LSD many, many times...loved the shite. He kept vials upon vials of Demerol with him at all times and habitually used it. Sim once mixed a milligram of crystallized psilocybin with water and drank it as if it were lemonade. He saw people nearby turn sickly green. “I feel very light, almost weightless,” he pronounced. “And, for me, that’s quite a trick.”
A list of the drugs used on the soldiers, workers, and Sim himself:
EA 1152 - Diisopropyl fluorophosphate (DFP)
EA 1205 - Tabun (GA)
EA 1208 - Sarin (GB)
EA-1209 - Ethylsarin (GE)

EA 1464 - A quaternary ammonium carbamate nerve agent[23]
EA 1473 - A quaternary ammonium carbamate nerve agent[24]
EA 1475 - Methylenedioxymethamphetamine
EA 1476 - A dimethylheptylpyran variant ("red oil")
EA 1508 - VG
EA 1517 - VE

Bad Trip to Edgewood. Lots of footage from the base
However, the best description of events from Edgewood is on Last Podcast on the Left. They do a series on it and it's incredibly informative and the guys do a helluva job of bringing levity to the situation.

Hell yeah. I'm going to listen to this while driving to the family thanksgiving. It'll give me something to talk about at dinner.

I have been on the grounds of Edgewood Arsenal, but, never inside the fenced-in compound.

There was a retired Army Lt Col, that had a PhD in psychology or something similar, taught at LSU in the early 80s, seems like his name was Brown. He had been heavily involved in the Army’s experiments with mind altering chemicals.

Wait a fricking second. They're claiming he tried VX on people/himself?
