Eclipse thread - school related

Just received an email from the school (central AL) that for the entire 4/8 day of the eclipse students would not be allowed outside. No recess, no PE, car riders will remain indoors during pick up.

I'd imagine to ensure they don't look up at the sun without protection.

People are stupid. Seems like a "don't look directly at that" would suffice... you know... like it did when we were kids. But... you'd have some dumbass tiktok challenge to see who could stare at it the longest, then somebody would go blind, then that kids parents would sue the school for letting their kid go outside during an eclipse.

I was happy that Ascension is providing glasses for every student. They sent home a waiver for parents to approve viewing. The warning was if they are caught taking the glasses off and looking at the sun, they will be sent inside.

When I was a kid our science teacher had us out there with a piece of paper with a hole in it learning something.
Now we just raise dumb children, turn them into pussies, and teach them to blame everyone else for your issues.

See, I told you OP. The school believes that the children, who they are supposed to teach, are too stupid not to stare directly at the sun, causing damage to their poor little stupid eyes.
It is a lazy teacher and litigious-minded admin issue.
