Damn near impossible to create a combined sewer system in south LA because of the rate of rainfall during the peak seasons.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying for the $$ they are talking about, you could almost build a plant JUST to treat stormwater.

Thanks for the link. The fees on my parent's rural property are absurd. Is there a mechanism to challenge the rigorous measurement and calculation methods employed by the EBR parish brain trust?

So it’s going to be added to our property taxes. This is effectively a little over a 5% increase in my property tax. Mother frickers keep squeezing us from every angle.

Know who Progressive leaders hate the most?

The people that pay the taxes.

The fee for my parent's property is $135, which is higher than the fee on my property (smaller lot, larger house plus driveway, etc.)

Their house is ~30% smaller than mine, so why the discrepancy?

WBRZ with a nice propaganda piece for the Mayor.

Amid push for new stormwater fee, some frustrated EBR homeowners say it's long overdue

Because they've thought of a way to get around that pesky hindrance:

quote:

The Stormwater Utility fee will be applied as a city-parish fee on residents' tax bills, meaning the East Baton Rouge Metro Council will ultimately decide on it, not parish voters.

ETA: But then again, don't we vote on property taxes?

Yea, I have no clue what mechanism they're using to ram this down our throats. Good question.

after this is set in motion, if your property floods, can you sue the city/parish?

you are paying for a service or utility that is not being properly maintained.

Found this from April 2022

quote:

The first wave of $165.4 million in ARPA funding the city-parish expects to receive arrived last year shortly after more than 1,000 homes in the parish flooded in May, five years after the 2016 floods devastated the region. Broome announced a significant portion of the ARPA funding would be used to address the parish's dilapidated stormwater infrastructure shortly after the May flood.

quote:

That work is in addition to the $225 million U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects involving upgrades to five of the parish's major tributaries and all the hydrology data that's currently being culled together for the comprehensive Stormwater Master Plan.

Advocate

Can someone intelligently inform me in layman's terms where $390.04 million went or is going?

I might lose it if I call the hotline.....

(Sorry if I'm late to the party, but I've arrived, ready to crash it)

I sent a message to my Councilman. I'm sure it won't help, but I couldn't just stay silent.

Hope you all do the same.

Who cares? The city is dominated by those who don't contribute and won't pay for this. It would get voted in anyway.

If you choose to live in EBR, you deserve to pay reparations. Quit whining.

Exactly.

We have been watching and editing for Broome to spend that money on projects other than basic maintenance, but the latest I heard was they couldn’t do the paperwork correctly.

She us fitting in millions and wants 40 million dollars more. Your guess is as good as mine as to who will get a piece of this pie because she has not demonstrated a plan to use it.

These are the kind of questions that need to be asked at the following public hearings.
