This is a land mark event for Baten Rudge
I wonder how many studies and catered lunches went into this.

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, the Capital Area Transit System and Build Baton Rouge in a joint statement Thursday announced that the city-parish is receiving $15 million in discretionary federal grant funding that has been earmarked for the Plank Road/Nicholson Drive Bus Rapid Transit project.

Dig into the article. They already dropped $800k of taxpayer money on a STUDY and a COMMITTEE and they are just getting started.

EBR seems to have a CATS tax increase constantly and now they're getting an additional $15m. I don't suppose that will decrease taxes.

“CATS” and “rapid transit” are mutually exclusive terms.

Have they ever done any of the shite they promised from that tax other than collect the money they asked for?

How many heads of CATS have we had in the last 10 years. It seems like they all get fired due to corruption or complete ineptitude.

Don’t know but everyone they hire seems to have a few things in common.

The same reason why the most qualified candidate didn't want to run their Airport.

Curious how far $15M will go these days in something like this?

Probably a few lunches and a couple payoffs. Not enough to buy busses for the route (or redirect ones parked at Cortana sitting idle) or hire a bus driver to drive the route.

We should commission a new public transportation task force that reports to a newly formed council for community development and infrastructure investment to perform a study on how the funds should be allocated to each phase and hold community meetings with members of the faith community to start the conversation as to how this will affect our local citizens.
