I'll never understand the issue some of you seem to have with erring on the side of caution.

It's almost as if the only way you think they're justified is if a severe storm comes through during a 30 minute window.

So when is the last time you heard a school bus full of kids die from a tornado hitting them.

Do you know where the nearest tornado shelter is to your house? I bet its the gym at the school your kids go to.

I think the main reason schools these days go to the side of caution is this is a liability issue and schools don't won't to get sued.

However, if someone offered you $5,000,000 to spend the day somewhere in a three acre neighborhood (not in a storm shelter) guaranteed to be hit by a tornado, you'd likely turn that down.

Worked out just fine for them. I'd just need to find a pipe, and bring my belt.

Many gyms have aluminum walls and/or roofs with no support structure besides the exterior. They get fricked up in tornadoes. That’s like taking your family to the garage.

I remember sitting in the hall at school during a tornado. What happened to those days?

Same here. We had a full day of school the day before hurricane andrew came inland. Went to school in well below freezing temps and during snow and of course severe storms. Can’t remember how many times we stayed at school when the power went out due to weather.

Like somebody else alluded to, will be just a matter of time before they start canceling school in August and September because it’s too hot
