Since there is no way to know that a tornado will/ or will not hit a “certain” location, rather an “area”, how about we change the parameters just a little bit....
I will put up $200 against your $200 that a ground touching tornado hits somewhere east of I10, west of I-55, north of 12, and south of the MS state line. Most of that is Livingston parish.
If you so choose, make it specific TO Livingston parish.

I understand it. I just think we go too far with it.

I tell you what, if a tornado actually hits a Livingston Parish school (or knocks over a single van, truck or bus in LP) Thursday, I will send you $40, on the condition that if nothing happens, you send me $20. That's pretty good odds for you... I should reverse that, in my favor. Also, if you REALLY want to save some kids lives, lower all speed limits to 15mph, nationwide, including freeways. Too slow for you? Not worth it? THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!

Clearly you don't understand it.

Clearly I do, and clearly you don't.

Again, if you want to err on the side of caution (and not economics or reasonable drive-times), let's go ahead and eliminate 90% of vehicular deaths by instituting a 15mph, strictly enforced, speed limit.

I think your counter-offer is rather lame, and ignores the science of probability.

One reason that the kids of LP are safe is the fact that even if a tornado touches down in LP, the size of that parish is rather large, so their chances of injury are fractionally small. Probably the same as if they stay home and game all day on the couch.

In fact, if YOU knew that a tornado would hit somewhere in LP and someone offered you $500,000 to spend the day anywhere in the parish, you'd likely take the offer.

However, if someone offered you $5,000,000 to spend the day somewhere in a three acre neighborhood (not in a storm shelter) guaranteed to be hit by a tornado, you'd likely turn that down.

You’re forgetting the option of being on a school bus.

You act like they're erring on the side of caution without respect to economics or reasonable drive times in this case. It's Holy Thursday in south Louisiana. This won't be some absurd inconvenience given the current weather risk.

Who would have thought a school closure thread would have people threatening each other by the second page

What you are ignoring is while at school the school is responsible for the safety of all the kids.

If they're at home it's not the schools' responsibility anymore.
