Evidently Baton Rouge likes its libraries. We voted the taxes in.

Mayor Coach and his communications team have a done a horrible job at pushing this. Almost like he should have hired a communication professional & not someone who was reporting traffic on the news a month ago.

I mean, what else were you gonna expect from a football coach?

That may be true, but tons of voters have no real skin in the game when it comes to funding these things.

I used to go to the one on terrace to study and no one would ever be in there.

Baton Rouge needs as many libraries and police officers they can get.

East Baton Rouge has more libraries than Orleans.

For reference, cobb county GA also has less libraries than EBR.

He stated this:
quote:

And I have a MLIS and worked at the lieberry system

So since he's "qualified," it seemed appropriate.

These tax renewals are almost ALWAYS put on some random arse election in March and nobody shows up to vote except the workers. It’s why the EBRPSS renewals keep passing. Most of these people don’t own property so they’re not paying for it.

All the more reason that only property owners should be allowed to vote on property taxes.

Don't librarians make like 60k and have to have a masters degree?

I swear people don't look at the back of their tax bills. If each property owner had to physically write out a check to the library each year, I guarantee these things wouldn't pass.

Property taxes are so frustrating. People with zero (or very little participation) in this scheme are allowed to vote tax increases on other people.

The library has now come out and said that they will have to cut back 45% of their hours if the cuts are made. Meaning that they would only be open for around 6.5 hours a day.

Sounds like a win. Public libraries are a 100% waste of money.

most librarians are not paid what she is paid, and there is maybe one other deputy director.

Just because you get a bachelors or masters degree doesnt entitle you to a large salary. The market does, except the market has nothing to do with these jobs because they are government jobs.

Its a massive waste of money, massive.

Yeah, so they can sit around for 20 years and then live off the pension for another 40 years after.

They already did and yall are ok with it LOL

I am perfectly fine firing in mass. I dont care if we lose services for months. Me and my family will be fine.

Have to suffer and go through the pain before we fix anything.

The sooner everyone understands that the better.
