Protein-packed diets add excess nitrogen to the environment through urine, rivaling pollution from agricultural fertilizers

quote:

In the U.S., people eat more protein than they need to. And though it might not be bad for human health, this excess does pose a problem for the country’s waterways. The nation’s wastewater is laden with the leftovers from protein digestion: nitrogen compounds that can feed toxic algal blooms and pollute the air and drinking water. This source of nitrogen pollution even rivals that from fertilizers washed off of fields growing food crops, new research suggests.

I’ve come to loathe this phrase.

I am getting so damn tired of hearing about climate change and pollution. This is America. We eat what we want to. If you have a problem with that then feel free to EABOD.

I like to piss in my backyard while I breath the fresh air and look up at the sky.

Now I have a reason when my wife looks at me funny, I’m just saving the planet honey.

All part if the push to get people to accept eating bugs as a replacement for traditional protein.

if its that big a problem, the solution is not to regulate our food. Its to install or increase the capacity of denitrification tanks at municipal waste treatment plants. this isnt some new technology. Shits been around forever.

From an engineering perspective, all of these "crises" are just simple mass and mole balances. We take a mole of something out of the ground or air, we need to put it back in a way that it can be used again. Our current "landfill" model of moving it from one source and dumping it permanently to another is kind of flawed. The same thing will happen with lithium battery waste in a decade or two.

In this case, kind of. Updating publicly owned treatment works (POTWs) is a huge first step.

You’ll own nothing,
Eat the bugs,
Live in the pod,
Drink the pee,
And like it

Nitrogen is plant fertalizer. The more plants, the less CO2. I thought Democrats want to save the earth from global warming?

Democrats are too stupid to realize the fallacy of their own ridiculous policies.
