That might be the dumbest thing I've seen posted here in quite a while
Why do you think there would still be crime around a cheap, legal product? There are not thefts and violence around alcohol. And there were thefts and massive violence around alcohol when it was illegal.

That’s because it’s safe and not a dangerous street drug like marijuana

As long as curaleaf isn’t secretly putting me out of my misery, I guess I’m good

I’ve started googling the people who are arrested for murder/violent crime. It’s absurd how many of them were arrested for different violent crimes within the past few years and are (I guess?) out on bond or had charges dropped. Are we getting as bad as New Orleans about not prosecuting violent offenders?
Combine that with all the liberal arguments about Louisiana having such a high incarceration rate. They literally think not incarcerating these repeat offenders will reduce crime.

The argument is that all of those "poor souls" were incarcerated for possession of a small amount of marijuana.

You think if heroin and meth were cheap and plentiful there would be no crime? Is that seriously your position?

Where does the violence related to heroin and meth come from?
It comes from dealers who are killing each other over territory, disrespect, silencing witnesses, etc. It also comes from users committing thefts to pay for a product, with an artificially high blackmarket price and restricted supply chain.
Would crime go to zero? No. People steal all kinds of legal items and drunks commit crimes as well. But it would plummet.
With the black market gone, there would be lots more resources to deal with addicts, who should then be treated as patients and not criminals.

Which is why I'm for legalization. The drugs actually cost pennies to produce. There is no reason a government created black market should drive up the price of a cheap commodity, resulting in violence and theft.
Legalization has failed miserably in cities and states that have done this.

The only real solution is mass incarceration for violent criminals.
I vote mass execution. Costs the overburdened taxpayer less.

Give me example. You are likely referring to decriminalization, which is not the same thing.

A tablet of Oxy costs literally pennies to produce. There is no reason for someone to get robbed or murdered over it.
frick that, that's putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound. Oxy is a fricking life ruiner and people don't need easier access to it.
Bring in Bukele to give a masterclass on shutting down gangs/crime. El Salvador went from one of the most dangerous places on the planet to one of the safest in 18 months.

I won’t pretend to understand how BR is actually doing, but just driving thru, it’s looking pretty drab and run down vs just 10-15 years ago. Also the amount of pure trash balls flying around in altimas and chargers etc is unreal

We should encourage more of this between the druggies, maybe make it a TV show even

Mostly because it’s illegal, hard to get and artificially expensive.
Government created black markets are never good.

So right now we're averaging a killing every 2 days. That is a hell of an early pace.
If the Summer sees even a modest uptick in murders then 200 could be a realistic number.
Per capita, that probably makes us as dangerous as Juarez, MEX.

200 will probably happen. It’s just gonna keep getting worse as the year moves along.
