Good luck even finding a car with a manual transmission nowadays.

I drive a manual I purchased in 2016.

When getting some new tires, I had to drive it for them at discount tire . Nobody working there could drive a manual.

Now that, to me, is kinda crazy.. almost seems like it should be a job requirement at a place like that to be able to drive a freakin’ stick shift.

Driving a manual is really a lost art.. soon driverless cars will be becoming more popular, even fewer people will learn to drive at all, much less how to drive a stick.

In the next couple of years I want to pick up a used vehicle, maybe an old Mustang or Jeep, that has a stick shift just because I enjoy, and miss, the visceral feeling you get when you are shifting around curves and stuff.. i used to have an old Jetta, and I’m old enough to remember these VW ads that were popular for long time that talked about ‘Fahrfugnugen’, the German term for ‘being one with the road’ or something like that.. and that shite was true, especially with a stick shift you actually feel the road and there’s a connection you dont get with an automatic transmission.

The first vehicle I learned to drive had a manual. What's sad is that I know a car buff that can't drive a manual.

it usually starts at the top (Formula 1) and trickles its way down to us poor people and our daily drivers. it is only a matter of time, probably fairly soon that stick shifts are not offered in any cars whatsoever.

That is amazing LOL.

My truck isn't a manual(don't like manual trucks). Any car I own will be manual though.

Why would I need to know how to drive a manual?

I don’t disagree with this but that not the point of the thread.

Actually, there are almost no $100k+ sports cars with available manuals. There are only 911s and the GT4 that are over $100k. No Ferrari's or other exotics have manuals anymore.

There are about 50 cars/trucks available in 2019 with manuals, most are entry level cars and sports cars in the lower price brackets as well as a few sports coupes.

Technically 2012, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano was the last swan song for Maranello manuals.

Why? Unless you have an affinity for older cars, why would anyone want or need to learn how to drive a manual?

My dad drove around once in a parking low showing me how to shift. After that he got out and basically said good luck, go learn it.

Yeah, you can LEARN it in 5 minutes:

"The clutch is two spinning plates. When they are just barely touching, there's friction between them. You want to minimize that, but still make the transitions smooth."

It's the practice that's important.

I’ll admit that I didnt know how to drive a manual trans until I took a job where I had to drive a truck with a 10spd split shift. Im 39 now and have actually still never driven a manual transmission personal vehicle.
